The End of the Year Book Tag

I do this tag every year! It is always interesting to look back and see how I answered the questions and to have a chance to plan for the rest of the year.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Every year there are a couple books that I start and never finish, and it is not because I wasn’t enjoying them. It all depends on my mood and if another book was distracting me! I started the audiobook of The Extraordinaries and I remember thinking it was a lot of fun. I am also a couple chapters into A Curse So Dark and Lonely, and I was really intrigued by the premise. I have no real reason for why I haven’t continued with them, but would love to have them finished by the end of the year!

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I am posting this tag a little late, so I have already done most of my autumnal reading, and it was a huge success! Now I am more in the mood for wintery/Christmasy books, and Mr. Dickens and His Carol is high priority for me this year. I have been meaning to read it every December since it came out, as A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite stories. I do not usual read a ton of Christmasy novels, but I am finding myself craving them this year!

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Look at these amazing covers! I read David Yoon’s debut novel, Frankly In Love, and was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it. I am so excited to read Super Fake Love Song and I hope that it gives me a lot of the same feelings that his first book did.

The early reviews for A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow have been fantastic. It sounds so adorable and like the kind of book I will be looking to read as the year comes to a close.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

Of course, I am hoping to read all of the books on my November TBR, but there are a few more books that I would love get to before the end of the year.

Girl, Woman, Other is a book that is so beloved and I cannot believe I haven’t read it yet. I just found a copy of Jade City at Indigo for $8, and I was so excited- everyone has been raving about it! I have been wanting to try a book by Joyce Carol Oates, and Blonde was recommended to me. I am fascinated by Marilyn Monroe, so I am really look forward to seeing what Oates does with her story. I also know that Brad Pitt is producing a movie adaptation!

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

I have read some amazing books this year and I know that I am going to have a difficult time choosing a top ten; however, I would not at all be surprised if Transcendent Kingdom surpassed them all. Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel, Homegoing, was my favourite book of the year when I read in 2017, and I have been impatiently waiting for her sophomore novel. I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet, but it is going to be the next book I pick up.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2021?

Not really! Are there any 2021 reading challenges posted yet? I would love to try to do one of those.

I am very much a mood reader, so I cannot plan that far in advance! I have been thinking about started a bullet journal in 2021, though. I thought it could be a good creative outlet for me. I have been looking at some layouts on Pinterest, and I am in awe of what some people come up with! It has definitely inspired me. I would love bullet journal recommendations because I am completely new to this world!

  1. A Curse So Dark and Lonely is also a book I’ve meaning to pick alongside Serpent & Dove (I know I’m super behind on the party 🙈) My aim is definitely to finish the Ember in the Ashes series and possibly start with Furyborn next!

    Great selection of books though!

  2. I always love reading this one! I need to write mine haha!
I hope you will still read some amazing books this year!

  4. I’ve seen so many good things about Yaa Gyasi – I haven’t read either of her books but I’m hoping to get to them soon! I hope Transcendent Kingdom lives up to your expectations!

  5. Mr. Dickens and His Carols seems like a really intriguing title! Also Homegoing is such an amazing book. It’s one of those I will always recommend to any who asks for a book rec 🙂
