Random Book Haul

I found a bunch of giftcards to Indigo that had $10-15 on the them, and it felt like Christmas day! I decided to order a few books I am excited about or that I have already read and loved and needed on my shelves. It is rare for me to purchase so many books at one time, so I thought it would be fun to talk about them in a blogpost. I cannot remember the last time I posted a haul!

It is snowing here in Northern Ontario, so I took complete advantage and took some pictures for my Bookstagram, including one of my haul!

I am so not ready for the winter, but the snow does make for a pretty backdrop!

I am currently reading Hamnet & Judith, and, as I am a huge fan of Maggie O’Farrell’s writing and this book has received a lot of acclaim, it is no surprise that I am adoring it. There is something so beautiful about how this story is being told, and I am drawn to anything that has references or is related to Shakespeare. I am not at all surprised that it won this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction.

I recently finished The Midnight Library, and Matt Haig has done it again. I think this might be my favourite book of his, and I adore everything he writes, with the exception of How to Stop Time. Anyway, I would compare The Midnight Library to anything by Mitch Albom, which is a huge compliment, as he is one of my favourite authors. While the book covers a difficult topic, the overall tone is one of hope. It is a book that will give you a new perspective on your life. I truly think it is the book we all need in 2020.

Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson is a book I adored and already reviewed on this blog. Does a post go by where I do not bring up one of her books?! I am completely okay with that!

Blonde is a book that was recommended to me by Hunter (shelfbyshelf on Instagram) after I mentioned I wanted to try something by Joyce Carol Oates. I am so surprised that this book wasn’t already on my radar. Marilyn Monroe and I share a birthday (June 1st) and I have always been fascinated by her. I am curious to see what Oates does with her story.

I cannot believe it took me so long to get a copy of Transcedent Kingsom. Yaa Gyasi debut, Homegoing, is one of the best books of all time and the one that made me fall in love with multi-generational stories. I also have the audiobook, so I will probably dip in and out of both.

I found The Labyrinth of the Spirits on sale, so I grabbed it. I didn’t realize that it was the fourth book in the series! Can you believe I haven’t read The Shadow of the Wind? I have read that you can read the books in the series out of order, but should I? I am thinking it might be best to at least read The Shadow of the Wind first since it is the one everyone seems to love.

I actually found The Lacuna is a little free library, and I know very little about it. I have been meaning to read something by Barbara Kingsolver for ages. I cannot tell you how long I have had The Poisonwood Bible sitting on my TBR shelf…

  1. Beautiful photo. Makes me almost eager for snow here in Michigan. Good luck with Blonde. I recently reviewed it and look forward to your take. I have owned The Lacuna for a while and keep forgetting about it but I’ve loved everything I’ve read from Kingsolver. Thanks for the tips. I’d not heard of the others.

  2. Barbara Kingsolver was my gateway author to adult fiction way way back and I think I have read everything she has written….except Lacuna!

I also adore Matt Haig who is my 2020 author of the year. I even liked How to Stop Time!

Love your stack, love the snow. Stay warm and happy reading!
