Thriller October TBR

Read With Angie is hosting a month long readathon with a focus on thrillers and spooky books. She has posted most of the necessary information on her Instagram account. There are a few prompts and a bingo sheet as well as a giveaway.

I am going to share a few options for each prompt and I am going to choose from those. I will also shared a few well recommendations in case you want to join in!

Read a Thriller by a BIPOC Author

Jar of Hearts is a thriller I have been meaning to read since it was released. I have heard that it is gripping and one of those books that you can read in one sitting- that is often what I look for in my thrillers! Jennifer Hillier published another thriller called Little Secrets earlier this year, so I might pick that one up as well!

And Now She’s Gone has been getting a lot of buzz on Instagram lately, and I am definitely intrigued! I have seen a lot of reviewers saying it is not what they expected and hearing that makes me want to read it all the more. I love when thrillers do something different!

Recommendations: When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole, Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson, My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

Read a Book with Red on the Cover

35068534

I can pretty much guarantee that I will be reading Monday’s Not Coming for this prompt, as it is the last Tiffany D. Jackson novel I have to read. It also has a very red cover! I honestly no nothing about this book, but Jackson wrote it, so I am reading it. This book would also work for the “Read a Thriller by a BIPOC Author” prompt.

Winter Counts sounds as though is it going to be a slow burn, which is something I love. The reviews I have read for this book have been very thoughtful and it has been obvious how much readers have appreciated this book. I cannot wait to experience it for myself! This book would also work for the “Read a Thriller by a BIPOC Author” prompt.

Recommendations: Final Girls by Riley Sager, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, Sadie by Courtney Summers

Read a Book by a New to You Author

45885644

I cannot believe I haven’t read this book yet because I have a feeling I am going to love it! I am so in the book for a creepy and twisty read. I hope I love The Sun Motel and can then read Simone St. James’ other novel, The Broken Girls. This book would also work for the “Read a Ghost Story or a Book About a Haunting” prompt.

Read a Witchy Book

49789629

The striking cover for The Year of the Witching is what first caught my eye, but the premise sounds just as amazing. I have a feeling a lot of us will be reading this book this month!

It is shocking to me that I haven’t read A Discovery of Witches yet. It is a book I have had my eye on for years! There is also a TV adaptation that I have heard some great things about, but you know I must read the book first!

Recommendations: Practical Magic series by Alice Hoffman, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

Read a Book by Your Favourite Thriller Author

The Initial Insult comes out in 2021, but I was lucky enough to get an ALC from Netgalley. I probably should read it closer to release date, but I just adore everything that Mindy McGinnis writes and I cannot wait any longer. I do not know much about it other than that there is a Halloween party at some point and it is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, so I have to read it in October!

50542147

Lisa Jewell wrote my favourite mystery, The Family Upstairs, but I have yet to read anything else by her. I have many of her books on my TBR, but I thought I would read her newest release first.

Read a Ghost Story or a Book About a Haunting

43069601. sy475

Dead Voices is the sequel to Small Spaces, which is a middle grade horror novel that I read a couple years ago. I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book, so it is about time I read the sequel! Also, there is a ghost hunter in this story- I love a good ghost hunter!

This cover is a thing of nightmares!!

Recommendations: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager, City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab, The Diviners by Libba Bray

  1. So many good books on this TBR!! The Year of the Witching, Dead Voices, and The Sun Down Motel are some of my faves! I’m hoping to read Horrid this month too. Hope you have an amazing October ❤️❤️

  2. I didn’t know about this but was already planning to read some spooky books this month. You’ve got some great picks. I’ve enjoyed the couple I’ve read and a lot of the others are on my tbr.

  3. Wow, this is such a great TBR! Looking forward to your thoughts on these – I’m excited to read The Sun Down Motel. I read Invisible Girl recently and in my opinion it wasn’t one of Lisa Jewell’s best. Hope you enjoy them all!

  4. This is such a great list! Monday Isn’t Coming sounds amazing! I hadn’t heard of Tiffany D Jackson until I started my bookstagram and I feel like I really need to read one of her books – everybody loves her so much.

  5. I read Monday’s not Coming just last week. It was actually my first book by Tiffany D. Jackson and I will definitely be reading more. I really enjoyed it! It was interesting though, it totally had a mystery and dark parts, but it really felt more like a hard-hitting contemporary to me somehow.

  6. A Discovery of Witches, part of the All Souls, is a magical trilogy! My favourite books of all time. The series is great, but of course, much of the book had to be cut down to adapt it for a shorter runtime and fewer episodes. Still, I loved the show.

  7. I have read so much about Sun Down Motel, I can’t believe I still haven’t come around to reading it yet. Year of the Witching is another one on my TBR, Goodreads have actually longlisted it for their Best Books of 2020!
