Finally Fall Book Tag

Why do I love fall-themed book tags so much! I have done the “Finally Fall” book tag in the past, and it is one I hope to revisit every year. I just love the questions!

In fall, the air is crisp and clear: Name a book with a vivid setting!

My favourite thing about Mexican Gothic was the setting. The house itself was a character, and it was what intrigued me most and propelled the story forward. The house really does feel alive! Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s writing is also very descriptive and vivid, which contributed to the atmospheric vibes of the novel.

Nature is beautiful…but also dying: Name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief.

My Dark Vanessa is so well written and quite incredible, but it is also one of the most uncomfortable books I have ever read. Russell handles the topics of this novel so well, and I believe that she achieved what she set out to do. There is just a lot to unpack in this one and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

Fall is back to school season: Share a non-fiction book that taught you something new.

Quiet actually taught me a lot about myself. I don’t think I have ever read a book that made me feel so understood. I would say that I am a true introvert, so I took a lot of valuable information away from this one! It definitely made me feel less insecure about not being as extroverted as I would like. I am definitely starting to embrace my introverted nature!

In order to keep warm, it’s good to spend some time with the people we love: Name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you’d like to be a part of.

I have said this so many times, but 10 Blind Dates has one of the best families in fiction! My grandparents immigrated to Canada from Italy, so I found myself relating to Sophie and her family dynamic. Her Nonna’s cooking and boisterous personality reminded me so much of my own Nonna- it was fun for me to get a taste for that experience again through reading this book.

The colourful leaves are piling up on the ground: Show us a pile of fall-colored spines!

Here is a picture of orange spines that I posted on my bookstagram recently!

Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside: Share a book wherein somebody is telling a story.

I am listening to the audiobook of Devolution as we speak, and I am loving every second of it! I love the way Max Brooks writes his books- they read like non-fiction! The audiobook is a full cast and it feels as though you are listening to a true crime podcast with each person sharing their stories. It is such a unique reading experience!

The nights are getting darker: Share a dark, creepy read.

I am also in the middle of My Best Friend’s Exorcism and it is so spooky but also more fun than I was expecting. I guess you would call it campy! I am loving all the 80s references! It is the perfect mix of horror and humour so far. I need more books like this in my life.

The days are getting colder: Name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up somebody’s cold and rainy day.

I have read quite a few heartwarming stories lately, but Boyfriend Material is the one that instantly came to mind! At almost 500 pages, this book is in no way short, but it reads so fast and you will be sad when it is over. I actually miss these characters and want more from them!

Fall returns every year: Name an old favourite that you’d like to return to soon.

The Themis Files is my favourite series of all time, and I needed to reread it asap! What better time than the fall? I credit Sleeping Giants for my love of SciFi and for books told through mixed media.

Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: Share your favourite cozy reading “accessories”!

I love the fleece blankets from Hudson’s Bay here in Canada. They are the perfect blankets to cozy up with on the couch while reading a good book. They are on Amazon but they are almost $70, which is ridiculous when you can get them on the Hudson’s Bay website for $45. That said, if you are interested, I would wait until closer to Christmas because they always go on sale.

I have seen these homesick candles everywhere lately, and I absolutely love how simple they are. An amazing book, a comfy blanket, and a fall-scented candle is a winning combination!

  1. Well I’m glad to know that Boyfriend Material reads fast 😅 I’ve kind of been avoiding it cause I didn’t know how long it would take me to read it 😬

  2. I’ve been wanting one of those Homesick candles for forever!! They just seem so cozy. Loved reading your answers for this post! ♥
