☕Pumpkin Spice Latte Book Tag

Pumpkin spice season is here and I am all for it! In the pumpkin spice versus apple cinnamon debate, I am definitely team pumpkin spice. That is why I was so excited to find the Pumpkin Spice Latte Book Tag on Caro’s blog, The Bookcheshire Cat. The Book Pusher on YouTube is the original creator of this tag.

Pumpkin Spice Latte ➽ a book everyone likes to hate on but is delicious

I guess I am not surprised that The Ensemble gets such mixed reviews and has a lower rating on Goodreads, but it one of my favourite books (and covers!). It helped me to come to better understand my reading tastes. I discovered that I love character-driven novels that focus on music and span over many years. I love to read how relationships change over time. It is definitely a slower paced novel, which is something I am personally drawn to but I know does not appeal to many other readers.

“Fall is my favorite season”  ➽ a cliché you can’t get enough of

The “trapped in an elevator” trope

Did you ever see that episode of Dawson’s Creek where Joey and Pacey are stuck in a Kmart together overnight and it leads to them having some important conversations? I have probably watched that episode 10+ times! I just love the trope where two characters are stuck somewhere together, whether it is an elevator, a department store, or at the office. For example, in The Wedding Date, the two main characters meet while actually stuck in a elevator, which bonds them and propels the story forward- so fun!

Sweater Weather to T-Shirt Weather ➽ a book you thought was one thing but was completely different by the end

I went into The Girls expecting a book about a cult, but what I actually got was a book about a girl observing a cult from the outside. I wanted all the nitty gritty details of what it means to be part of a cult, but it felt like the reader was being kept at a distance. While The Girls was well written and had a lot of potential, I truly think that it was told from the wrong perspective.

“Spoops” ➽ do you have a spooky book on your tbr?

Just looking at the cover for Horrid freaks me out! I know very little about this book, but it seems as though a creepy house is involved, which is a trope I absolutely love. I am hoping to get to this one soon!

Tarot Reading ➽ a five-star prediction

Monday’s Not Coming is the last Tiffany D. Jackson novel that I have left to read. I have given her three other books five stars, so I would be surprised if the same were not true for this one. I know nothing about it, but I don’t need to know anything to trust that I am going to love it!

Sephora Sage + Crystal Set ➽ a book that meant well but missed the mark by a landslide

35411685

I love Matt Haig’s writing! The Humans is one of the most charming books I have ever read and his latest release, The Midnight Library, is high on my TBR, but How to Stop Time missed the mark for me. I enjoy books about time travel, but there has to be something unique about them in order to really grab my attention. How to Stop Time didn’t feel original. I appreciated the commentary on mental health and it was fun to see some appearance from historical figures like Shakespeare and F. Scott Fitzgerald, but otherwise the story was forgettable.
