Books That Make Me Hungry

I love when books talk about food, as I would definitely consider myself a foodie! I also love when main characters appreciate food and cooking. I need to read more books like this, so I am looking forward to reading everyone’s TTT lists this week!

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

I expect to see With the Fire on High on a lot of lists this week. It was the book that instantly came to mind when I saw the topic! Emoni has such a passion for cooking that it is almost magical. The food descriptions are out of control. I wanted to try absolutely everything that she was cooking and eating! Her time in Spain was a highlight for me- I need to reread this one soon.

The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory

Every book in this series has a ton of food descriptions, which was something I appreciated! The Wedding Party, along with Royal Holiday, are the two books in the series where the food sounded the most appealing to me. Maddie and Theo, the characters in The Wedding Party, stay in and eat a lot of pizza- I just loved that. Royal Holiday follows Maddie’s mother, Vivian, and scones play an important role in the story.

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

Food isn’t a huge part of this book, but it definitely plays a role. The characters often connect over lunch or in the breakroom, and a lot of important scenes happen in restaurants.

10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston

The food in 10 Blind Dates brought me so much nostalgia! My dad’s side of the family is from Italy and food was definitely my Nonna’s way of expressing love. The same could be said for Sophie’s Nonna- she is constantly offering her family an array of delicious Italian foods and desserts. Reading about that made my heart happy and my mouth water!

Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker

I think the cover alone tells you why this graphic novel made me hungry!

From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by Tembi Locke

From Scratch is the only nonfiction title on this list, but I knew I had to include it. So much of this book is absolutely heartbreaking, but there are moments of hope and lightness, and many of them revolve around very delicious-sounding Sicilian food.

The Color of Tea by Hannah Tunnicliffe

The Color of Tea is a book I read years ago and it wasn’t a favourite of mine, but I remember the food descriptions like it was yesterday. The main character opens a café and makes a lot of different treats. I am such a sucker for a good macaron!

Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting

Kiss My Cupcake

I am currently reading Kiss My Cupcake and I am loving it- it is so cute!! The main character, Blaire, opens a cupcake and cocktail shop called Buttercream and Booze- enough said!

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Everything about Crazy Rich Asians is so vividly detailed, including the food descriptions.

The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone

Just staring at this cover makes me hungry!

What book made you hungry? I’d love to check it out!

  1. Australian writer, Kerry Greenwood’s Corunna Chapman series is about a baker who solves mysteries. Lots of food and some recipes.
Lindsey Davis books set in Ancient Rome, occasional food references because Falco’s grandfather was a market gardener. Falco is a detective, in Ancient Rome they were called informers. Delightful characters and stories.
