My Last Minute Reading Rush TBR

I wasn’t sure if I was going to participate in The Reading Rush this year, but in the end I just couldn’t resist. I love the forum on the website and that I can connect with other readers. I wasn’t too inspired by the challenges, but there is something nostalgic about this readathon and I think I would get FOMO if I didn’t at least attempt it! Also, the book club book is Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid, which I have already read and really loved!

Read a book that starts with the word “The”/Read a book completely not in your house

The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert

48717633

As you will see, quite a few of the books that I plan to read this week would work for this challenge, but I really want to read The Voting Booth so I had to include it. Libro fm was kind enough to send me an ALC, and I noticed that it is quite a short audiobook. I have a six hour car ride ahead of me today, so I am hoping that I can finished this book and maybe start another. That will fulfill the challenge to read a book outside of your house. I have been hearing great things about The Voting Booth, and it seems to be extremely timely and poignant. I am sucker for a cute illustrated cover as well!

Read a genre that scares you or your least read genre

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

52180399

I am not someone who typically reads horror, even in October! I hate horror movies and I am such a scaredy cat, but every once in awhile a horror novel comes along that catches my attention, and that is the case with The Only Good Indians. I have seen some incredible reviews from Own Voices reviewers. I have heard that it shines a light on the injustices experienced by Native Americans and does so in a way that is truly authentic and all too real. I know it’s going to be a tough read in many ways, but I’m looking forward to it.

Read a book matching the colour of your book stone

Sadie by Courtney Summers

34810320. sy475

I was born in June, and it is never quite clear to me what my birthstone is- I believe there are three birthstones for June! The one that I have always been drawn to is pearl, though that does not make for an exciting colour for a book cover. I then remembered that Sadie has a whitish cover, and this is a book I have been meaning to read since it came out. I have been told that it is one of the best audiobook narrations of all time, and I am so ready for that. If I manage to finish The Voting Booth on the drive, I will start Sadie next!

Read a book that inspired a movie you’ve seen

World War Z by Max Books

8908. sx318

This is the prompt that I struggled with most. I know that I am not alone when I say that I usually read the book before seeing the movie and that if I see the movie first I often struggle to then read the book. I was going through my shelves trying to figure out something that would work, when I remembered World War Z. I love the movie, and I have heard that the book is quite different. It is good to know that going in, so hopefully I won’t be comparing them too much! I also have the audiobook of Max Brooks’ latest release, Devolution, thanks for Libro fm, so if I enjoy World War Z I can jump right into that audiobook.

Read a book that takes place on a different continent than yours

The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré

50214741

I have heard nothing but incredible things about The Girl with the Louding Voice, and many fellow readers have told me that it is their favourite book of the year. The book is set in Nigeria, and I am so excited to finally get to this one.

Read the first book you touch

This challenge is a little confusing, so I do not have a book chosen for it yet. I think I might just choose a few books and have someone else pick which one I should read. To be honest, if I don’t get around to reading a book for this challenge, I will not be too upset!

  1. Wow! You have such good books there! Hope you’ll love your reads when you’ve decided which books to read for ‘the first book you’ve touch’ challenge!

  2. This challenge has always intrigued me but there is no way I’d ever have the time/attention span to read so many books in a rush like this haha. I do enjoy seeing others do it though lol. Hope you enjoy the books youve picked out!

  3. I’m June as well and I never knew which stone was really mine so I just went with Alexandrite because it was the only stone that came in my favorite color purple when I was younger haha. But now I have a new appreciation for both pearl and moonstone. Both are so gorgeous and Sadie is a perfect choice. I think you’ll love it! The podcast and audio book narration make it even better than it already is. Happy reading!

  4. I’ve had The Girl With The Louding voice on my shelf for a while and haven’t gotten to it for one reason and another. It makes me happy to see everyone so excited about it – clearly I have a good read to look forward to. Enjoy the readathon!

  5. I loved reading this post! The Girl with the Louding Voice looks like an absolutely incredible book – I look forward to reading your review if you read it! xx
