The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

I had to copy Deanna on this one! I realize now that I have not read many tropical books. I would love some recommendations! The Unhoneymooners was one of the first Christina Lauren books that I read, and it is by far my favourite. I think the fact that it is set in Hawaii made me love it that much more. It is both hilarious and sweet. I will never tire of the fake dating trope!

Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson

I have read quite a few books that focus on music, as it is something that I often look for in fiction. I am drawn to books that deal with the arts in some way! I recently read Let Me Hear a Rhyme (I will post a full review soon!), and I absolutely adored it. The cover alone shows you just how much music is at the centre of this story. There are even lyrics throughout the book! It has been a long time since a book has made me so emotional, and I think the music and the message behind it had a lot to do with that.

The Glittering Hour by Iona Grey

You could say that The Glittering Hour is a book made entirely of secrets. There is a lot that is slowly revealed to the reader and you find yourself constantly trying to guess what is really going on here. I should talk about this book more often because it really is incredible!

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

I love a good mystery that is set on a island, and The Guest List certainly delivered! The water in this story is harsh, dark, and cold, and it plays a major role in this Agatha Christie-like novel. The Guest List is one of my favourite mysteries, and I really want to read more from Lucy Foley.

True crime! I do not know how, but I have fallen in love with true crime over the last few years. I sometimes feel guilty about it because someone it profiting off another person’s tragedy, but nothing pulls me out of a reading slump quite like true crime. I have noticed a shift it the genre recently where there is a greater focus on the victims. This has been an encouraging change!

Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

This is probably an obvious choice, seeing as the word “friends” is right there in the title. What I thought was unique about Conversations with Friends was the way it portrayed friendship. We can have a complicated relationship with a friend, and they may not always bring out the best in us. It brought up some interesting questions about how and why we choose our friends. Frances and Bobbi have one of the most intriguing friendships that I have ever read.

Be Not Far From Me by Mindy McGinnis

Be Not Far From Me is a survival story that will have you on the edge of your seat. It follows Ashley, who is both severely injured and lost in the woods, and the reader is privy to her inner thoughts as she is fighting to survive. I thought it was a unique perspective, especially since I am not someone who normally enjoys survival stories.

The Light We Lost by Kill Santopolo

There are plenty of books that I have read that I have been disappointed by, but there are very few that I actively regret reading. The Light We Lost is the worst book I have ever read, and it infuriates me just sitting here thinking about it. I gained nothing from having read it.

Love Her or Lose Her by Tessa Bailey

Love Her or Lose Her is the book that made me realize just how much I enjoy second chance romances. Of course, this book has some heavy moments as we are following a couple that is headed towards divorce, but there was so much about it that was just plain adorable. It was also refreshing to read about a couple going through couples counselling!

Final Girls by Riley Sager

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Final Girls overall and I want to read more from Riley Sager, but Quincy was so frustrating to me. I completely understand the trauma that she experienced and how that would affect her decision making, but she continued to make poor choice and was naive in a lot of ways. There was a lot that Quincy put up with and things that she didn’t questions that just had me shaking my head throughout the entire novel!
