Opening Lines I Love

I am such a sucker for an amazing opening line, so when I saw that they were recently the topics of both Top Five Tuesday and Top Ten Tuesday, I was sad that I Missed them. I mean, I often share the first line of a book in my reviews- I could not skip out on this topic. It is fascinating for me to see how an author chooses to start their novel! There are so many I love, so I will probably share more in the future.

Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore

Oona stopped trusting mirrors years ago.

The Secret History by Donna Tart

The snow in the mountains was melting and Bunny was dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation.

The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker

At first, they blame the air.

The Glittering Hour by Iona Grey

The February dawn crept in slowly, apologetically, as if it knew how unwelcome it was.

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore

Later, they would blame what happened on the little wooden horses.

  1. I’ve got WILD BEAUTY on my TBR and that opening line has convinced me to bump it up the pile!

  2. Oona Out of Order is on my tbr! Was it amazing?! The Dreamers sounded so phenomenal, but I don’t think it would make a good read … right now. Also, I can’t bring myself to read anything with a baby in danger/sick since I became a parent, it’s just too upsetting.

  3. There are some fantastic opening lines here! The one for Oona Out Of Order and Wild Beauty have particularly left me interested in the books in question.
