A couple weeks ago, I ranked all of the YA novels I have read over the last few years. You all seemed to enjoy that, so I thought I would do something similar with all of my favourite books. I have been blogging for almost three years (It will be three years next week!), so I have shared my favourite books of the year for three years now. I thought it would be fun to take all those books rank them using TierMaker.
As there was a time when I said these books were the best I had read in a year, it is no surprise that I stand by the majority of them and they remain my favourites. The Wonder, Victoria, The Poppy War, and Guernsey’s Literary Potato Peel Pie Society are all books I remember loving, but would need to reread to know for sure if they were all time favourites.
The Gentlemen’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and The Tattooist of Auschwitz are both books that I would no longer feel comfortable recommending or would ever talk about on my blog. I was actually surprised to see them on my favourite lists! I will have to look back on that year and see what else I read. Fight club has one of my favourite endings ever, but the book overall is definitely not one of my favourites.
If you have been blogging for awhile, or keeping track of your favourite books of the years, I would love to know if your feelings have changed looking back on them now!
It is interesting how our opinions and tastes change over time. I know some other people too who have reconsidered their opinions of The Tattooist of Auschwitz – I am not sure what is it about this book that made them change their minds, but I guess the initial impact does not last long. At some point in the past Fight Club was also in my favourites, but it is certainly no longer there.
I think you’re right about The Tatooist of Auschwitz. It did not have a lasting impact on my, especially when I consider all of the other WWII books I love.
I guess as we read more and more books, old favourites may not hold up.
Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman is my absolute favorites of all time! I’m yet to read other books by her though.
It’s such an incredible book!! I haven’t either, but I’m hoping to read her newest release really soon.
WAOUH The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is definitely one of my all time favorite too, it is a fantastic story! And I really wanted to read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue but I’ve heard so many mixed reviews that I don’t know if I should actually pick it up. Anyway, I truly like these kinds of posts!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I think I would skip The Gentlemen’s Guide. It has some issues I didn’t recognize at the time and the author has done some problematic things. There are better books out there for sure!

What a great idea! Yeah, I’ve definitely looked back at ‘favourite’ books from years gone by and thought “What was I thinking?” When I first started my blog, I reviewed exclusively paranormal romance and I cringe when I look back on some of the books that I enjoyed because some of them are so problematic and definitely not what I would recommend to anyone now!

This is challenging Kristin! Wow! What a great project! I reread Guernsey before the movie came out….and although there were some things I appreciated in the second read, I can say that I didnāt enjoy it as much as the first read …Iām not a rereader….so I think itās me and not the story! This might be a great summer project! Iām also celebrating 3 years in July. Btw…I did look at the tier making site and found it confusing and gave up! Youāve inspired me to take another look. Did you find it hard at first?

Iām afraid I need more help with the site than you could offer in a DM…..I can usually figure these things out but I ended up spinning in circles. One question that might help me…..did you start with a template (which one?) or did you create your own? I want to write a post like this for summer, so I have some time to troubleshoot! Ah I read with the fire on high recently and loved it! Also really liked evelyn hugo š And Eleanor Oliphant and man called ove were both great. I didn’t really connect to gentleman’s guide, so I get it getting downgraded. Such an interesting post to do! š
