My Top Ten Love Stories

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a romance freebie.

I have always gone through phases with the romance genre. It is something I really have to be in the mood for. That said, I have been blown away but how much the genre has evolved over the last few years. I continue to find myself drawn to them. In honour of Valentine’s Day, I am excited to share with you my ten favourite love stories at the moment!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This is so obvious, but it wouldn’t seem right to not include it on a list like this. I mean, I have seven editions! Mr. Darcy is my one and only book boyfriend. I read Pride and Prejudice every year and it is just so special. Let’s be honest, Jane Austen is the queen of romance. This could just be a list of all of her books.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

The Unhoneymooners was my first Christina Lauren and while I have enjoyed the other books of theirs I have since read, none have lived up to this one. Maybe because it was my first? I just thought it was hilarious and the main character and the love interest had great banter. I’m always here for a good love to hate romance.

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

The Kiss Quotient is my favourite romances series and The Bride Test is my favourite of the two books we have had so far. I love that it was a bit of a slow burn despite the fact the two main characters were living together. It was a joy to see them slowly learn more about one another. It was just so respectful.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Chloe Brown is such a memorable character. I loved her personality and her wit. I also really enjoyed her love interest, Red. It’s great when you love both of the characters seperately and together. There is a lot of great discussions about chronic illness and mental health in here as well. So refreshing!

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

How do I even begin to talk about this graphic novel series?! It’s the sweetest love story ever. I love that it is a story of first love and that there is an innocence there. It brings me so much delight to watch Nick and Charlie navigate their relationship. They face obstacles, of course, but they are so respectful on one another. The cutest!

Lovely War by Julie Berry

Historical fiction has always been my favourite genre, so it is not surprise that a historical romance would end up on this list. Lovely War is so much more than that! Aphrodite and some other gods narrate the story which just adds something special. There are two love stories that are intertwined. It is set during WWI so have tissues ready if you’re going to read it.

The Glittering Hour by Iona Grey

I was completely caught off guard by how much I loved The Glittering Hour. I shouldn’t have been because it was set up to be something I love. I am fascinated by the 20s and anything to do with the Bright Young Things. The story is told in two timelines and I was equally invested in both. I get emotional thinking about it.

Tin Man by Sarah Winman

You may argue that Tin Man is not a love story, but I certainly think that it is. You might say it’s an almost love story, but it is just too beautiful to not include on this year. I think about Ellis and Micheal all of the time. Their story is gut-wrenching but one that needs to be told. One of the best books I’ve ever read.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Who doesn’t love hate to love? The Hating Game is the ultimate hate to love romance! I am also hear for a good office romance. This is such a slow burn and there is so much great banter. I have yet to find a hate to love romance as good as this one. Any recommendations?

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before By Jenny Han

Ah, Lara Jean. I just love her so much. This has to be the sweetest YA series. I love the romance but I also love the familial relationship in the books just as much. It’s also one of my favourite movie adaptations. P.S I Still Love You (the second movie) comes out tomorrow!
