The Wives by Tarryn Fisher

Thursday’s husband, Seth, has two other wives. She’s never met them, and she doesn’t know anything about them. She agreed to this unusual arrangement because she’s so crazy about him.
But one day, she finds something. Something that tells a very different—and horrifying—story about the man she married.
What follows is one of the most twisted, shocking thrillers you’ll ever read.

What did I just read?! I hope that this book is not an indication of the kind of thrillers I will be reading in 2020. I am slowly starting to fall in love with the genre, but they can really be hit or miss for me.
The first half was really compelling and I was intrigued by the whole multiple wives aspect of the story. It is compulsively readable and extremely fast-paced. I thought that there was a lot of potential.
Sadly, the “twist” left a bad taste in my mouth and I think it so overdone and cliche. I can not say much more than that without spoiling this book, but I think if you have read it you will know what I am talking about. The synopsis claims that The Wives is “one of the most twisted, shocking thrillers you’ll ever read.” Um, no. It was predictable and not at all shocking. There were so many different ways this could have played out and I thought the author chose the most obvious path.
The narrator was also extremely frustrating to me. I thought that the book could have been more interesting and layered if we heard from each of the wive’s perspective. I guess there are so many things I would have done differently.

I can not say that this is a book that I would recommend. There are so many better, less frustrating thrillers out there. I might actually put together a list of my favourites!

The Wives sounds like the kind of thriller I should save for a reading slump…when I just want something to stare at.
It is perfect for that! It is such a fast read, even if I was unhappy with the twist.
I hate you didn’t like it! I’ve heard so much buzz about this book. It’s on my TBR this month!
I have seen mixed reviews, so I would be curious to see what you think. At least it is a really quick read!!
I quite loved the book. Lovely review. Hope your next read is fab
I have seen so many mixed reviews! I feel like it’s a love or hate kind of book, which can be fun!
I love your thoughtfully written honest reviews! 🙌😍
Thank you so much!
Ugh honestly, I’ve really been hating thrillers since I read The Woman in the Window by AJ Finn waaay back in 2018….I just hate when thrillers start strong and have a bad finish 😭
Same! An ending can truly make or break a thriller.
A lot of thrillers have been very cliché since then.
YES! Maybe that’s why I’ve been avoiding the genre entirely, because of the cliché or just too predictable ending!
I agree, thrillers are so hit-or-miss. They often fail to shock me. Sorry you didn’t love this one!
Same. They always claim to have the most shocking twist, but they rarely do!
Ah, I’m glad I didn’t pick this one up. But I’d love to see your list of thriller favorites! 🙂
Awesome! I will definitely post a list soon!
I thought I was the only one who gave it a very low rating
It’s seems like it’s one of those “you love it or hate it” kind of books!
