The Christmas Carol Book Tag

The wonderful Norees @ NoReadsTooGreat tagged me to do the Christmas Carol Book Tag. I am so glad that she did because I was looking for a festive tag for this week!

YOU’RE A MEAN ONE, MR. GRINCH
Name a villainous character you can’t help but love to hate.

A.I.D.A.N from Illuminae

I had to go with A.I.D.A.N for this question. They are an AI and I have only read the first book in the series, but I found that I had a soft spot for them. Part of me hates them, but part of me loves them too. It is confusing! I guess I really should continue on with the series.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU
What book do you most want to find under your Christmas tree this year?

42412126

I just share five of the books I would love to find under the tree, so here is a link in case you are curious. Since then, I remembered the book that I would most love to find under the tree and that is If You Want to Make God Laugh. Everyone on bookstagram is raving about it, and it sounds just like the kind of book that I would love.

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER
Name a favourite character that had to overcome a major obstacle.

Victoria from Language of Flowers

13581132

This is sort of a tricky question! I think most of the books that I read have a character who overcomes some kind of obstacle. I eventually settled on Victoria from Language of Flowers because the entire novel is her overcoming obstacle after obstacle in an extremely realistic way. She falls down and really struggles at time but she usually finds a way to persevere, but not without the help of people who care about her. I just found it so refreshing!

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN
Which characters do you think are at the top of Santa’s “Naughty” and “Nice” list?

Nice List- Ansel from Serpent & Dove

40024139

Even though Ansel is a side character, he is by far my favourite character. He is the definition of a cinnamon roll and I just adore him. I love that he supports the main character even though doing so puts his job at risk.

Everyone from The Secret History

29044

What I loved about this book is that every single character is horrible but I still managed to be invested in them. I think that is a testament to Donna Tartt’s writing style. They are all pretentious and do absolutely terrible things that would certainly lands them on the naughty list.

FROSTY THE SNOWMAN
What book just melts your heart?

40495957. sy475

I recently binged both volumes of Heartstopper and I am in love. I could not wait for the next volume so I read the issues that Alice Oseman makes available for free online. I think that the romance between Charlie and Nick is my favourite romance of the year. They are just so damn wholesome and supportive of one another!

FELIZ NAVIDAD
Your favourite book that takes place in a country other than your own.

6066095

As a Canadian, there are not many books set in my country so I decided to choose a book set in a country I do not often find in books. Answering this question made me realize that many of the books I read are set in Western countries- that is something I would love to work on in 2020.

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR
What book do you read to get in the Christmas spirit?

20893528

There is something about Little Women that screams Christmas to me and brings me so much nostalgia. This is one of those books that is meant to be read in the dead of winter while sitting by fireplace with a hot chocolate. So cozy!

SLEIGH RIDE
What character would you most want to spend the holidays with?

This answer surprises you all, doesn’t it!?

BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE
What book do you hate so much you would sacrifice it to the fire to stay warm?

32956365. sy475

I am happy to report that I didn’t hate a single book that I read this year, so I went with the worst book I read in 2018. I haven’t spoken many times about all of the problems that I had with The Light We Lost, just know that thinking about it makes my blood boil!

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?
What book would you recommend to everyone?

37570546

There is something about this memoir that I think would appeal to everyone. I know that I took a lot away from it and as soon as I finished I wanted to put it in the hands of everyone I know. What I appreciated is that it is not self help- Gottlieb shares her experience both as a therapist and as someone who went to therapy.
