I love a good romance as much as the next person, but it is not realistic to think that every book couple will stay together. I had so much fun looking back on some of the books I have read and trying to figure out whether or not I think the couples stayed together beyond the pages of the book. It was difficult, but hear are five couples who I think may not have stood the test of time:
Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games
I have said it many times now, but I am Team Gale or Team No One. I feel like Katniss settled for Peeta in the end, and that is bound to create resentments. It is just challenging for me to see them settled and Katniss being happy. I actually think she would be most content being alone.
Tate and Sam from Twice in a Blue Moon
I think that these two have potential to last, but they have so much baggage and it was all resolved way too quickly. It is one of those things where I think there would be some serious issues once the honeymoon period ended. They needed more time to work through their past!
Emma and Her Love Interest from One True Loves
I will not say who Emma ends up with because this story is about a love triangle and that would be a major spoiler! I did not appreciate how Emma handle the situation and it is another case where things were handled way to quickly. I think in the future she would have much more conflicted feelings.
Abby and Cooper from Love, Life, and the List
Sure, part of the reason they may not last is because they are so young, but the true reason I included them on this least is that I felt like Abby was way more mature than Cooper. There were moments where I thought he could be a jerk. With more life experience, I think Abby would find someone more suited for her. Some people just make better friends than partners!
Piper and Kyle from Say You Still Love Me
I am sorry but some of Kyle’s behaviour was downright creepy! I also didn’t think that they had as much chemistry as adults as they did when they were teenagers. Some romances do not need a second chance!
Oh I’m team Gale too so I can totally get behind the idea of Katniss and Peeta going south!!! 🙈😂

I think Katniss stayed with Peeta because he was safe and convenient. I’m not entirely on board with them either! I was on team Gale until the last book…… he made some really stupid choices! If it wasn’t for that, they could have had a crazy passionate life together!
I can completely see that! I truly think she would have been better off alone in the end. It would have been refreshing!
It totally would have been refreshing! Why do characters always need to end up with someone?? There’s no problem with being alone and being happy!!

I’m team Peeta all the way but I don’t actually think they stayed together. I just don’t think Katniss loved him, at least in the way he loved her.
I love Peeta but just not with Katniss. It is not really fair for him that she settles for him in the end!
I liked her even less with Gale. I only saw them as friends.

I’m also team Gale. But when I think about his actions in last book, me too felt disappointed. But that doesn’t make Peeta hero. I hated him in all three books. I never felt his love. He gave me Jacob of Twilight vibe.

I actually agree with Katniss and Peeta. Katniss seems like she would have lived a life by herself. I think the epilogue at the end felt a little forced and just didn’t sound right after all the hard stuff they went through.
I felt the same way. I like to think that if she wrote the book today there would have been a different ending where she chooses to be happy by herself.

I totally agree with Katniss and Peeta; honestly, I think the conclusion would’ve been better if she’d ended up alone. She didn’t seem like the type of person to settle down, especially not with someone like Peeta.

Okay, I’ve only read The Hunger Games and One True Loves from your list, but I like to think that Peeta and Katniss stayed together? Even if Gale was the more obvious and likely better-suited option?

I 100% agree with the One True Loves pairing. I just don’t see how it can all last even with the ending that TJR did. I do have to say I love Katniss/Peeta though I have only read book one and most of my love for them is based off the movies but even in book one I loved them so much so I am so amused at everyone wanting to split them up. I just could not get into movie Gale or book Gale at all. Idk he seems so arrogant to me.
Glad I’m not the only one who felt that way about One True Loves. I much preferred book Gale, but I did not expect so many people to agree with me about Katniss and Peeta!
Oh I definitely agree with you on Katniss and Peeta! I feel like they became a couple simply by circumstance and by the end of the series, their relationship still felt a bit forced and inorganic. Katniss gives off loner vibes and I don’t think Katniss is really the best companion for Peeta. I don’t think they stayed together, but I’d like to believe they stayed friends, at least haha
