First Impression Friday- Royal Holiday

First Impression Friday is hosted by J.W. Martin.

First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther.

Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.

Royal Holiday (The Wedding Date #4) by Jasmine Guillory

44300636. sy475 Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie’s work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can’t refuse. She’s excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn’t expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain private secretary, his charming accent, and unyielding formality.

Malcolm Hudson has worked for the Queen for years and has never given a personal, private tour—until now. He is intrigued by Vivian the moment he meets her and finds himself making excuses just to spend time with her. When flirtatious banter turns into a kiss under the mistletoe, things snowball into a full-on fling.

Despite a ticking timer on their holiday romance, they are completely fine with ending their short, steamy affair come New Year’s Day. . .or are they?

Do not ask me why I am reading a Christmas book in October! I was in the mood for something light and fun and I had a eARC of Royal Holiday thanks to Edelweiss.

I have always enjoyed the books in this series and I have come to know what to expect from them. These are easy, sweet, predicable reads. What I appreciate about Royal Holiday so far is that we are following an older protagonist- Vivian who is 55. I find that to be very refreshing! Vivian is actually Maddie’s (the main character from the last book) mother. I also love that it is set in London and that there is royalty involved. I am at the part where Vivian just met the love interest and I think the romance is going to be adorable.

The one thing that I am struggling with is that the dialogue can sometimes feel forced and unnatural, but it is something I can look passed for the sake of a cute romance.

I am not someone who reads a lot of Christmas-themed novels. Do you have any favourites?

  1. As much as I love the season I don’t read Christmas books often, mostly because I don’t enjoy them. However, I’m a fan of Jasmine Guillory’s books and I’m hoping to get my hand on a copy of Royal Holiday. I enjoyed your take on it so far!

  2. i still haven’t read a Jasmine Guillory book!! & i don’t read many Christmas books…while i love the season and getting into the spirit, i don’t feel like there are many non-romance Christmas-themed books!! it’s a bummer. merry early Christmas :p
