Hocus Pocus Book Tag

It is not Halloween until I have watched Hocus Pocus at least three times, so of course when I saw this tag on Classy X Book Reviews, I knew I had to do it! I then realized that I did this tag two years ago, but I thought it would be fun to see how my answers have changed.

THE RULES

There are no rules. It’s YOUR blog. But it would be nice if you linked back to Never Not Reading (tag creator), and maybe the person who tagged you too. Share the love folks.

Feel free to use the GIFs used by Never Not Reading, the graphics made by Flavia the Bibliophile if you would like, both, or make and use your own visuals!

The Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel

No surprises here! I am ashamed to admit that I have not completed many trilogies between now and 2017, but I am confident that even if I had, The Themis Files would remain my favourite. As you know, I adore everything about this series and think everyone should give it a chance.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

40024139

I can not say too much about this villain without spoiling the novel, so I will just say that she is pure evil, and we only got a small peek of her characters in the first book. I think her motivations and actions are going to be explored much more in the sequel- I can not wait!

The Trials of Morrigan Crow Jessica Townsend

34219873

I actually haven’t started this series, but I have heard that it is the next Harry Potter! I would love that. I think it would be awesome for the children of this generation to have their own version of Harry Potter to fall in love with. I am hoping to pick this one up soon!

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

40969415

What I love so much about Waiting for Tom Hanks is that it is not meant to be taken too seriously. It has every romance trope that you can think of, and I loved every single second if it. It is just plain fun , cheesy, and adorable. I can not wait for the second book in the series!

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

13

This is going to be a controversial answer, but I just did not get The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It felt like it was trying too hard to be funny and it didn’t land. That said, humour often doesn’t work for me in novels!

How We Fight for Our Lives by Saeed Jones

43682552

How We Fight for Our Lives was the last book I finished, and wow was it powerful. I can not remember the last time I have read such a raw and honest memoir. Saeed Jones does not hold back. He shines a bright light on what it is like to be a gay, black man in the South. It is also a beautiful love letter to his single mother.

Cassandra Clare

I have only read three Cassandra Clare novels and I feel as though I am so far behind that there is no point in even trying to catch up! I know she has different series, but they all seem to be connected in some way. And then there are also the novellas- I do not have time for all that!

Do I even have to explain this one? Girl, what are you thinking? RUN!

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

6334

I would love a prequel to this novel! I am so curious to know more about how the world got to the point that it did at the start of Never Let Me Go. Why and how was Hailsham created? I need answers!

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

17383918

I can understand why so many people hate Allegiant, but I secretly loved it and totally understood the ending- in my mind it totally made sense when you consider the personalities of the characters. I appreciate that Roth wasn’t afraid to go there- it took me by complete surprise!

Lanny by Max Porter

I have never read anything quite like Lanny- it is very experimental and absolutely brilliant! It is a book that has a lot to say, and one that I haven’t stopped thinking about since I read it.

The Wedding Date Series by Jasmine Guillory

33815781. sy475

One of my favourite things about this series is the fact that even though each of the books could stand alone, there are always cameos of the characters from the other books. It is fun to see how they are all connected and to get a little insight into how every couples is doing!

  1. I just bought Waiting for Tom Hanks for myself for my birthday. I CAN’T WAIT TO READ IT!!! <3 <3 <3 Also I am totally there with you on Hitchhiker's Guide, I just didn't get it and I actually (gasp) like the movie better. I'm not familiar with the Themis Files, but you've got me suuuuper curious. Adding to the list of things to look up later.

  2. I always used to watch Hocus Pocus at Halloween but I haven’t seen it for several years now. I still really need to get a copy of Serpent & Dove as it sounds amazing and I was waiting for it to come out. I also really want to read Nevermoor as I heard the same as you so I’m quite curious. Fingers crossed it really is the next HP and we both enjoy it.

      1. Hopefully, it sounds so, so good!!

Yes I hope so. I’ve heard a lot of good things and it sounds like such a wonderful story so hopefully we should.
