I normally participate in Top Five Tuesday but I recently shared some of my favourite booktubers! I thought I would mix it up with week and try out Top Ten Tuesday for a chance. It is ironic because I just had a friend (Hey Cathy!) recommend that I talk about book titles with numbers in them. It was meant to be!
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
I have such fond memories of Ready Player One because it is one of the few books that both my brother and I have read. It is something that we bonded over! It is my brother who got me in to video games and it is a common interesting that we continue to share. It was so fun to talk about this book with him. I thought it was so entertaining and I need to read more books that involve virtual reality in some way.
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
The Five People You Meet in Heaven is one of the few books that I read multiple times- I always take away something new each time. I also greatly admire Mitch Albom has a human being. I was lucky enough to go to a book signing for the sequel to this book and he was incredible- one of the best speakers.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Six of Crows is one of the most-hyped books in the book community and I can completely see why. The cast of characters is incredibly dynamic, each having their own personalities and motivations. I also really loved the setting! I have to admit that I felt it drag at parts but I am looking forward to reading the sequel because I have been told it is even better.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Another beloved book in this community and one of my all time favourites. Evelyn Hugo is no doubt one of the most dynamic and memorable characters- I wish she was a real person- flawed and doesn’t apologize for it. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a master at bringing her characters to life.
Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup
Twelve Years a Slave is a book that I have never talked about on this blog and that is such an oversight. I read it years ago but it has stayed with me. It is everything that I love and admire about memoirs. The movie adaptation is also fantastic and worth watching.
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Diane Setterfield is an incredible writer and The Thirteenth Tale is a wonderful example of her skill. I do not talk about this book enough considering how much I loved it! If you are like me and you’re a sucker for a book about books don’t sleep on this one. I have to take this opportunity to share a few quotes:

“What better way to get to know someone than through her choice and treatment of books? ”
“A good story is always more dazzling than a broken piece of truth.”
Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler
It has been years since I read Twenty Boy Summer and I am not sure how it would hold up today, but I loved it when I first read it. I remember it being a lot more emotional than I expected. Sarah Ockler was once a really popular YA author. I will have to see if she has written anything lately!
84, Charring Cross Road by Helene Hanff
Here is another book about books- truly a love letter to the written word. It is nonfiction which consists of the letters shared between Helene Hanff and an overseas bookseller. They form an unlikely friendship over their love of books. It is fun to read their banter- Hanff can be snarky at times. Truly a delight!
1984 by George Orwell
A classic- how could I not include it on this list? It is a book that has withstood the test of time and may be more relevant than ever. It has been years since I read it and is one I really should revisit at some point.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Khaled Hosseini is one of my favourite authors, with A Thousand Splendid Suns being my favourite of his novels. How he is able to weave a story is pure genius. It is one of the novels that will pull you in and makes it difficult to return to reality. I remember having such a book hangover after finishing it!

I’ve also read “The Five People you Meet in Heaven” and “The Thirteenth Tale.” Another I’ve enjoyed with a number in its title is “Just One Look” by Harlan Coben.

Great selections this week! I was really torn on the topic because I felt I was just going to pick the same books everyone else did, but so far I’ve seen a lot of diversity, which I love. I haven’t read 1984 yet but I read Animal Farm and liked it, so hopefully I will enjoy 1984. Six of Crows is so good. I still need to read the sequel though … Great post!
I liked Animal Farm as well. It took awhile for me to get into 1984 but it is so poignant I still need to read Crooked Kingdom as well!

Once Upon A River by Diane Setterfield was one of my favourite books of last year – I’ve been meaning to read The Thirteenth Tale ever since but haven’t got round to it yet!

I had Ready Player One as no 1 on my list as well. I wasn’t as fond of it as you were though. I really want to read 84 Charing Cross Road!
