September Non-Bookish Favourites

I have decided to start doing monthly non-bookish favourites. I think it is fun to talk about things other than books on this blog every once in awhile, and I figured this was a great way to do it! I will talk about all of the movies, TV shows, music, food, etc I loved during the month.

Falling Inn Love

Falling Inn Love is about a woman from the States who moves to Australia after winning a run-down bed and breakfast. She ends up having a hate to love romance with her contractor, and it is just as cheesy as it sounds. It is exactly what I needed and I thought it was so damn sweet.

Game of Thrones

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and finished Game of Thrones- the hype is real! What can I say that hasn’t been say a thousand times before- just know that I loved it but I understand why people had issues with the last season. They did some of my characters dirty!

Styling Hollywood

I got distracted by GOT so I haven’t finished Styling Hollywood yet but I have loved what I have seen so far. Jason and Adair are both so charming and I love their banter. I also appreciated that they gave us an honest look at their relationship. The business side of the show is also interesting, with Jason styling celebrities for award shows and Adair renovating celebrity homes. This is my kind of reality TV!

Carry Me Away by John Mayer

I have always and will always adore John Mayer and his music. His newest single, Carry Me Away, is no exception. He has an incredible voice and just speaks to my soul.

Autumn Leaves by The Goo Goo Dolls

The Goo Goo Dolls was my band in high school- their songs bring me so much nostalgia. I can not tell you how many times I listened to Iris and Better Days. I was excited to find that they had released a new album. I love every single song, but it is Autumn Leaves that I have been playing on repeat. There is something haunting about it and it is just so appropriate for this time of year!

ASMR Rooms

ASMR is not my thing- it actually gets under my skin! That said, I adore the youtube channel ASMR Rooms. They are the perfect videos to put on in the background while you read, and there are so many Harry Potter themed rooms. I am in awe of the creators talent!

Half Baked Harvest

I think I have found my new favourite food blog! I haven’t had the chance to test out any of the recipes yet, but I am going to make it a priority in October, starting with this Cream Cheese Pumpkin Banana Bread- how delicious does that look?! She has a ton of amazing recipes and her photos are stunning!

NYX Mystic Petals Eyeshadow Palette

The Mystic Petals palette has been my go-to this month and it was so affordable. I love that it has cooler shades and I have been able to come up with some unique but wearable eye looks. I think it is the perfect palette for Fall!

Have you watched, listened to, or tried any of my favourites? What was your favourite non-bookish thing this month?

  1. I had no trouble at all with the GOT wrap up. I felt it was time to end it as well and I loved how everything came together. I was sad about some characters, but it’s also what I love about the series: being scared of my fave characters dying.

      1. That was my issue, not favourite characters dying. It was rushed at the end; characters being moved around to serve the plot in ways that was inconsistent with their established characterization (or even with them acting plausibly out of character).

  2. This year I went on a MASSIVE GOT binge, I watched the ENTIRE show within 5 weeks. First time ever, so that I was ready to watch the last episode on streaming day – best decision ever – I had a blast!!

  3. The only thing of yours that I’ve seen is Game of Thrones…I have thoughts (which I summed up in response to a comment above)

You’ve introduced me to Jason and Adair, they seem interesting, and I think I was aware of the one who’s a stylist before.

Following your template, my non-bookish things (from memory).

    Movies
The only thing I can think of is Bill Burr’s (for me, controversial but funny) new stand up special on Netflix…does that count as a movie?

    TV
Unbelievable…a limited series on Netflix based on a true story (harrowing but not unfulfilling in the end).

    Music
Today I’ve been listening to a lot of 80s-90s Madonna for some reason…and disturbing my neighbours with my singing (yes, singing, that’s what I call it).

    Random
Hmmm WW2 is endlessly fascinating to me and I’ve watched a number of youtube video essays lately (again)…including one about Africans fighting for France and video of them being ridiculed and killed by the Nazis, and West African soldiers who fought in Burma (the grey soldiers reflecting on their fighting experience and the nothing they got for their efforts after the war). I’m very interested in forgotten and erased voices as anyone who follows my blogging and writing knows so I was actually looking for more information on British West Indian fighters in WW2 at the time – I know we were there (I blogged about our participation not that long ago) but can’t seem to find much of anything (little as it’s known all of the Commonwealth – then the colonies – fought with Britain in that war and were treated badly for their efforts, I’m actually reading an unpublished play about a West Indian regiment court marshaled in Italy because they revolted against shoveling sh*t). As I usually tag these things (a la Buju) could go on and on the full has never been told.

    Food
I’m an eater not a baker…and I had the most delish blueberry muffin recently at a new place a friend and I tried…it’s pricey so I’m not sure if/how often I’ll be back but that warm blueberry muffin was heaven.

    Make up
My mom noticed I was wearing lipstick the other day…that’s all I got.

(sorry this ran long; I just decided to play along)

    1. This was so fun to read. Thanks for playing along!
I can not wait to watch Unbelievable. I just have to be emotionally prepared.

Can never go wrong with Madonna!

WWII is fascinating to me as well. I read a memoir called By Chance Alone this month which I think is worth the read.

      Blueberry muffins are my favourite!

Hahah moms always notice these things!

  4. I really need to watch Falling Inn Love. I’ve seen so many people love it and it looks super cute!

  5. OMG I LOVE the Goo Goo Dolls!! A Boy Named Goo and Dizzy Up the Girl were on constant repeat in my teen years!! I had no idea they released a new album. And yes, Autumn Leaves sounds so beautiful. Thank you for sharing, or I might never have found this!! 💕

  6. I love ASMR rooms, they’re perfect for reading when you need background noise but nothing too distracting. I like to listen to them to help me sleep too!

That eye shadow palette is gorgeous! Definitely perfect for autumn, you’re right.
