Fall Book Tag

I posted my answers to the Fall Book Tag two years ago, and I thought it might be fun to revisit it and see how my answers have changed! I still stand by the books that I chose back then, but it is always fun to answer a tag years later having a whole bunch of new books to choose from.

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

It has been a long time since I have read and loved a YA fantasy this much! It was a good reminder that fantasy does not always equal royalty and magic- it can be Gothic, dark, supernatural, and downright scary. I was not ready for there to be so much devastation! There is so much about House of Salt and Sorrows that I thought was completely original and it has inspired me to read more current YA fantasy. Grateful that I was pushed to pick up this haunting fairy tale.

I can not recall a time where I have ever read an ending that has haunted me quite as much as the ending to Melmoth has. It is so brilliant and is set up so well. I can even explain it, you have to read it for yourself! I truly think the entire book is worth reading just for the ending alone. It is just a couple paragraphs but it will keep you up at night.

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

What makes Waiting for Tom Hanks so great is that it is not meant to be taken seriously- it is just plain fun. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it. It was like watching a cheesy Hallmark movie and I loved every second of it. This is a book that has all of the romance tropes and it just works. I enjoyed the romance, but it was actually the friendships that warmed my heart the most. I can not wait for the sequel!

There There by Tommy Orange

The cover of There There has both orange and yellow, and the author’s last name is Orange- I think I deserve bonus points for this one! This is also a beautiful book that it so intricately woven that I am still in awe of Tommy Orange’s talent.

Recursion by Blake Crouch

As a character-driven reading, I do not tend to gravitate toward books with a ton of action, but I think that Recursion qualifies. While there are quieter moments, your mind will never settle while reading it. You will constantly be asking questions and trying to figure out exactly what is going on. I love that about Blake Crouch’s novels!

Fountain of Silence by Ruta Sepetys

My answer to this question changes every single day but right now it is The Fountains of Silence. Can you believe I have yet to read anything by Ruta Sepetys? I know I am going to love all of her novels. I have been in such a historical fiction mood lately so I can not wait for her next novel to be released on October 1st! So much about it intrigues me, especially that it is set in 1950s Madrid- a setting I know nothing about.

It has been rainy here the last few days and it is certainly starting to feel like Fall! What is your favourite thing about this time of year?
