I am always curious to know what books people add to their TBRs, and that has inspired me to write this post! I have done a few of these in the past, and I always love the discussions that happen in the comments. So here we are again!
The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
I found a first edition (YAY!) hardcover in a Free Little Library- I couldn’t resist snatching it up! Although I am not ready for summer to end, a part of me is looking forward to all things Fall. I am already planning the books that I want to read in October and The Silence of the Lambs is now firmly on that list. I have never seen this movie, because I am such a chicken, but I think I can handle the book… I hope!
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
I has been ages since I added a YA fantasy to my TBR, but all I needed to hear was that Sorcery of Thorns is about a library with books that are actually demons- I was instantly intrigued! The majority of my friends on Goodreads have been giving it is rave reviews and I can not wait to give it a try. I think this would probably be another perfect book to read in October!
The World That We Knew by Alice Hoffman
I didn’t have to know anything about this book to add it to my TBR- I will read anything that Alice Hoffman writes! She is one of my few autobuy authors. She writes the kind of niche books that I absolutely adore- historical fiction with an element of magical realism. The World That We Knew is set during WWII, and follows three women’s fight for survival. I am intrigued to see what Hoffman does with the WWII fiction genre. I was lucky enough to received an eARC so I will be reading it ASAP.
Raven Black (Shetland Island, #1) by Ann Cleaves
I have mentioned before the Shetland is one of my favourite TV shows, and I do not know why I never considered reading the series that it is based off of until now. I managed to find the audiobooks and I can not wait to give the first book in the series a try. I am so curious to see how true the TV show stayed to the source material. I have a feeling reading this series will make me want to binge Shetland again for the fourth time…
The Wall by John Lanchester
The Wall was longlisted for the Booker Prize and it is one of the few books on the list that I have managed to get my hands on. According to Goodreads, it has mixed reviews, but I am curious enough to give it chance. I am hoping that it ends up being an original take on the dystopian genre.
Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center
The striking cover instantly caught my attention! Things You Save in a Fire has also been all over bookstagram lately and has been receiving rave reviews. I have read a few popular bookstagram novels in the last few months and have really enjoyed them! I have definitely found like-minded readers, which is always awesome. I think it is great that this book follows a female firefighter- as perspective I have never read from before. This book is high priority for me!
The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
I recently read my first Ruth Ware novel, The Death of Mrs. Westaway, and enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting. She manages to create so much atmosphere- something I always look for in my thrillers. I am looking to read something else by her, so I figured why not her latest release?! One observation though is what is it with nannies in thrillers lately?
A History of the World in 100 Objects by Neil MacGregor
I did not realize that A History of the World in 100 Objects was over 700 pages when I added it to my TBR! I am not going to let that scare me though because I am so curious about it. It has great reviews on Goodreads, and I love the idea of learning history through objects. This is one of those books that I have to be in the mood to sink in to, but the Fall/Winter seems like the perfect time to become absorbed in a giant nonfiction book.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
I initially did not think I would be interested in reading Ninth House, but that changed when I read the synopsis. In case you are like me and have only seen the cover and heard the hype but never read the description, I will share it here with you:

Doesn’t that sound interesting? I hear the phrase “secret societies” and I am sold! I am also curious to see what Leigh Bardugo does with adult fiction.
What book have you most recently added to your TBR? Have you read any of these books?
I recommend all of the Thomas Harris books about Hannibal Lecter (4). Although it was written last, Hannibal Rising (in my opinion should be read first) is about Hannibal’s childhood.

I have been meaning to read an Alice Hoffman book for SO long! I love that specific niche that she writes in too, so I’m really confused as to why I haven’t read one yet.
I also want to read silence of the lambs eventually. Its just that I love the movie a lot and sometimes I dont like reading books after I’ve already seen the movie because it spoils the fun sometimes. I dunno what’s up with me there.
Also, Ninth House is actually looking really interesting, too! I like that its about a non-traditional student.

Things You Save In A Fire & The Turn Of The Key were put page turning books I couldn’t put down!! One because I needed to know why the nanny was writing a letter to a lawyer claiming her innocence from prison & the other for the romance!!

YES to Alice Hoffman!! Her stories are just so decadent, and I can’t wait to try The World that We Knew. I read Silence of the Lambs when I was younger (I had a habit of reading books that were too mature for my age :P) and I remember liking it. It definitely wasn’t as scary as I’d thought it’d be, so I think you’re good! 😀

I have never watched Shetland, but that book sounds pretty good and since the Kindle book was on cheap, I just bought it – ooops! 😉

You are really missing out by not watching Silence of the Lambs, it is such an amazing movie (the book is great as well). Ann Cleeves is one of my favourite crime writers and I envy you, that you haven’t read the Shetland series yet. Turn of the Key sounds good.
Maybe once I have read the book I will better equipped for the movie.
I am now even more excited to read the Shetland series!
Like you I love post like these where you get to see what people have added to their TBRs and why. I’m also too scared to watch Silence Of The Lambs too although might try to one day as it’s meant to be fantastic. Some of the things I know make me so wary though 😅 idk why though as I’ve probably seen equally creepy things in TV shows.
A few of these are on my TBR list too so it’ll be interesting to see what we both think of them. I hope you end up enjoying them all.

I NEED TO GET “Sorcery of Thorns”!!!! I’m CURRENTLY on a book buying ban … but there’s at LEAST 5 more books I want to buy (and not borrow from the library) this year … this being one of them. I NEED IT! I’m super excited to get my hands on it ha-ha!

I’d really like to read Silence of the Lambs as well. To prep myself for it, I listened to the Red Dragon audio book thinking that since it’s the first in the series, I’d get some backstory on Hannibal Lecter before he appears in Silence. But nope, no such luck. It was about a different dude although Lecter was mentioned.

Yes! I finished Sorcery of Thorns over the weekend and it was SO GOOD! It does get a littttttle boring in the middle but, overall, I really enjoyed it!
