Books I Recently Added to My TBR

I am constantly added books to my TBR and I thought it might be interesting to talk about why I want to read them. I also get a secret joy out of adding more books to your TBRs!

The Last Book Party by Karen Dukess

42424722

This book has been making its rounds on bookstagram and the cover and title alone were enough to make me want to read it! I have absolutely no idea what it is about but I am intrigued nonetheless. I know that it is historical fiction and that books are important to the story, and that is all that I need to know!

The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

The English Patient

I have been meaning to read a book by Micheal Ondaatje, and The English Patient is one of my mom’s favourite movies. I told her that I would read the book and then we can watch the movie together. Also, for my birthday my friends gifted me one of those 100 Book Bucket List scratch-off posters and this book is on there!

Miracle Creek by Angie Kim

41189557

Miracle Creek is another book that everyone on bookstagram was reading at some point. It must have been a Book of the Month club pick! The cover instantly caught by attention, and the more reviews that I read the more intrigued I was. Not a single one of my friends on Goodreads has rated it below four stars. It sounds like the kind of literary mystery that I adore!

The Adventures of Maud West Lady Detective by Susannah Stapleton

44585237. sy475

This is sort of a random one, but I saw Simon at Savidge Reads rave about it and I knew that it would be my type of book. I have really gotten in to true crime this year but I have realized how few of them focus on women. I know next to nothing about Maud West other than the fact that she was a female detective working in the early 1900s. I am looking forward to learning more!

My Friend Anna: The True Story of a Fake Heiress by Rachel DeLoache WIlliams

43822651

My Friend Anna is another true crime book and it is being describe as Sex and the City meets Catch Me If You Can- that is all that I needed to know! I recently saw Morgan at nycbookgirl on bookstagram talking about how much she was enjoying it and couldn’t put it down. It comes out tomorrow and I can not wait to get my hands on it!

Something Like Gravity by Amber Smith

41139667. sx318

Look at that cover!! So awesome! The book itself sounds just as beautiful and sweet. I think that the Goodreads description will help to sell you on this one:

Chris and Maia aren’t off to a great start.

A near-fatal car accident first brings them together, and their next encounters don’t fare much better. Chris’s good intentions backfire. Maia’s temper gets the best of her.

But they’re neighbors, at least for the summer, and despite their best efforts, they just can’t seem to stay away from each other.

The path forward isn’t easy. Chris has come out as transgender, but he’s still processing a frightening assault he survived the year before. Maia is grieving the loss of her older sister and trying to find her place in the world without her. Falling in love was the last thing on either of their minds.

But would it be so bad if it happened anyway?

Sounds so good!

Middlegame by Seanan McGuire

35965482. sx318

I can not believe that Middlegame came out in May and I am just now talking about it! It was always on my radar but I was not sure if it was something that I was interested in reading. I adore Seanan McGuire’s The Wayward Children series and I think I have just been nervous to try anything else by her. Middlegame has been getting glowing reviews and I am not pretty confident that I will love it as well!

  1. All are great books or look like they are. I preferred The English Patient as a movie. Somehow I expected more from Ondaatje’s novel because I was a fan of the movie first. Minghella, the director, did an amazing job and the musical score by Gabriel Yared in the movie is beautiful beyond words. I got to know about The Last Book Party from another booktuber and got instantly intrigued by the synopsis. It has a lot of potential.

  2. Definitely looking into some of these new-to-me titles! The only one on the list I’ve read is Miracle Creek (which I actually have a mini review up for today!), but I’m apparently one of the like 7 people that rated it below 4 stars (hides in shame!) lol

Hope you get to all of these titles and that you love them! Happy reading!

  3. I’ve not read any of these, yet, but “The Last Book Party” really caught my eye. I recently added “Sourdough” by Robin Sloan to my TBR pile, since I enjoyed his other novel, “Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore” so much!

  4. Middle Game by Seanan Mcguire is in my TBR as well 😀 Miracle Creek has been around a few times cant wait to pick it up as well!

  5. Thanks for this post idea – I just finished mine for tomorrow. I’ve added so many new books to my tbr this month. Can’t wait to read them.

BTW I have Middlegame on my tbr too. I started the audiobook, but it expired before I really got into it – so, now I have to wait for my library request to come through again.

      1. Very good – very different – didn’t get too far into the story to be able to say more. But I have high hopes 😀

  6. The Last Book Party sounds so cute (based on the title alone) and the cover 100% makes me want to pick it up. I’m gonna have to check out what it’s about 🙂 Miracle Creek is on my TBR too but hoping to read it next month!

  7. Interesting list! Looks like some will have to end up on my shelf. One of my Reader friends raved about Miracle Creek, and I enjoyed The English Patient a long, long time ago. Except it does require you to be Patient as you read it.
