First Impression Friday- The Dragon Republic

First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. It was created by J.W. Martin.

Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.

The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kaung

The Dragon Republic is my most anticipated read of the year and I was lucky enough to receive an eARC from HarperCollins and Edelweiss.

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang was one of the best books I read last year, which says a lot considering I am not the biggest fan of fantasy. There was something so special about the world, characters, and magic system that she created. They all came together and made for an epic read!

Let me tell you… from the prologue alone I can tell that this book is going to wreck me. Something happens early on that immediately grabs your attention and makes you wonder where this sequel is going to go. I am so excited and so nervous! I get the feeling that Kuang is not afraid to kill off beloved characters.

I feel as though the first book was a lot of set up and world building, and that we are going to see a lot of action in The Dragon Republic! A lot of the time the second book is a series can be a let down, but I can honestly say that so far I am not getting that vibe from this book. I think it has the potential to be even better than The Poppy War if it builds on the foundation that was set in that book.

I am so thrilled to be back in this world!

The Dragon Republic comes out of August 6th and I am hoping to have it read and review by then! I will be surprised if my rating ends up being anything less than four stars, but I predict it will be a five star read.

      1. I think so too! That’s kinda why I’ve not been reading it, afraid to be disappointed 🙈

  2. So excited for this book. I hadn’t even planned to read The Poppy War but I just needed an audiobook to kill time and now it’s one of my favourite 2019 reads.
