Review- The Wedding Party

The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date #3) by Jasmine Guillory

Maddie and Theo have two things in common:

1. Alexa is their best friend
2. They hate each other

After an “oops, we made a mistake” night together, neither one can stop thinking about the other. With Alexa’s wedding rapidly approaching, Maddie and Theo both share bridal party responsibilities that require more interaction with each other than they’re comfortable with. Underneath the sharp barbs they toss at each other is a simmering attraction that won’t fade. It builds until they find themselves sneaking off together to release some tension when Alexa isn’t looking, agreeing they would end it once the wedding is over. When it’s suddenly pushed up and they only have a few months left of secret rendezvouses, they find themselves regretting that the end is near. Two people this different can’t possibly have a connection other than the purely physical, right?

But as with any engagement with a nemesis, there are unspoken rules that must be abided by. First and foremost, don’t fall in love.

The Wedding Party is fast-paced and compulsively readable. I finished it in one sitting, so that has to say something! It, along with the other two books in this series, make for the perfect classic beach read. They are light and entertaining and the main characters have a ton of chemistry.

I loved the set up of this novel- we have two characters who hate each other but have to get along because they are both part of the wedding party for a mutual friend. I will say that The Wedding Party was pitched as an enemies-to-lovers story (one of my favourite things!) but it felt more like miscommunication to me than anything. I was hoping for a little bit more build-up and banter!

I love that characters from the first two novels make appearances in this installment, and I actually thought that the friendship between our main character, Maddie, and Alexa (the main character in The Wedding Date) was the strongest part of the story. I am here for strong and supportive female friendships! There is a scene where they are wedding dress shopping that brought a tear to my eye.

Another thing I appreciate about this series is what a big part food plays in each of the novels. These characters are always eating, which I loved and made me hungry. The only thing that dumbfounded me was just how much pizza they ate. I mean, I love pizza as much as the next person but how about some variety!?

Yes, if you are a fan of adult contemporary romance I think you will be entertained by The Wedding Party. If you are just looking to dip your toe in to the genre, I think there are better books to start with.

It is worth pointing out that if you have not read the other books in the series, I think you be fine, but reading the other two books, especially The Wedding Date, will help give you some context about the relationships between each of the character.
