ABCDE Books!

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm.

I am loving the theme for July that Shanah has come up with for Top Ten Tuesday. Throughout the month we will make our way through the alphabet, sharing a book for each letter. This week is ABCDE!

All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews

18339630

I just spoke about All My Puny Sorrows in my post yesterday about books written by Canadians, so I will not repeat myself, but I just could not not choose this book for the letter ‘A’. It is beautiful and is the book that solidified my love from Miriam Toews.

Bitter Orange by Claire Fuller

38589871

Bitter Orange has the potential to be the best book that I will read in 2019. It is pretty much the perfect book in my mind, having so many elements that I adore. The characters are so memorable and completely flawed. There is a sinister tone throughout the entire novel and you never quite know who to trust. It goes in directions you are not expecting. So brilliant!

Calypso by David Sedaris

35832073

Calypso was my first and only David Sedaris, and I need to read more from him. I love his self-depreciating tone and his sarcasm. I relate to his sense of humour! I also very much enjoyed reading about his complicated relationship with his family, especially his sisters. It also has a great moment where you understand the title- I love finding that in books!

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

40597810

I mean, how could I not chose Daisy Jones and the Six for the letter ‘D’. This is a book that deserves all of the hype that it receives, especially if you listen to the audiobook. It is completely original and its only flaw is that this is not a real band so we will never get to hear their music.

(The) Ensemble by Aja Gabel

44908895. sy475

There were a few books that I was debating to chose for the letter ‘E’, but in the end I settled for The Ensemble because it is a book that I think deserves more attention. I am always surprised by its 3.43 rating on Goodreads, but I can understand why it is not for everyone. It is quiet and slow-paced, but that is what I thought was so special about it. It feels as though you are following a real musical quartet as they navigate their careers and their relationships.
