Summer Bucket List Book Tag

I saw this tag on Marie’s Blog Drizzle & Hurricane Books and I thought it was so fun! I would consider myself a seasonal reader so it is interesting to reflect on the books that I want to read during this balmy season or that remind me of summertime!

The Rules

  • Link back to the original creator in your post.
  • Feel free to use any of the tag graphics in your post, or create your own!
  • Tag 5 other people at the end of your post, and let them know you’ve tagged them.

The Water Cure by Sophie Macintosh

39335566

As you can probably guess from the title and cover, water is very important to this story. It is one of those novels where the setting and the isolation that the setting creates is almost a character in and of itself. The Water Cure is not your traditional beach side read but it is really beautiful and thought-provoking.

The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory

42455873

I just finished reading The Wedding Party and I haven’t had a chance to talk about it on the blog yet! I will be posting a full review some time soon. Even though this book was not perfect, I thought that the romance was strong and that the main characters had a lot of chemistry.

The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

40961230

Have I raved about The Travelling Cat Chronicles enough? I don’t think so! In this story we follow our main character and his beloved cat on a road trip that is so bittersweet that it can bring a tear to my eye just thinking about it.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

29044

The first book that came to mind was The Secret History- I just can not get over how absolutely brilliant it is! This is a book that deserves all of the hype and I can not believe that I put off reading it for so long. It is incredibly written and has some of the most memorable and complex characters that I have ever read.

The Dreamers by Karen Thomson Walker

34409176

The Dreamers is one of those books that you keep on reading because you need answers. It is a mystery, a dystopian, and a SciFi novel all wrapped in to one and I could not put it down. The plot is so compelling and the writing is fast-paced. I think I read this one in a day or two!

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

39338454

The Bride Test has become my go-to answer for this question because I think that “sweet” is the perfect way to describe the relationship between Khai and Esme. Watching them navigate their growing feelings and understandings of one another was a pure joy to read.

Naturally Tan by Tan France

40174034

A lot of the non-fiction books that I read are dark and hard-hitting, so it was refreshing to read a memoir that was light and entertaining. While Tan touches on some important topics like race and LGBT issues, the overall tone of the novel is playful and fun. His personality really shines through!

Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D. Williams

25753113

Genesis overcomes so many obstacles and I found myself rooting her on throughout the entire novel. I really became invested in her and her story. Genesis Begins Again might be my favourite middle grade novel and I wish it was on everyone’s radar!

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

38739562

Our main character, Emoni, is an aspiring chef and we get beautiful descriptions of all of the food that she makes. Everything sounds so delicious and aromatic! Do not read this book on an empty stomach!

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

20893527

There are so many books that I could have chosen for this question but I could not get Anne of Green Gables out of my head. There is something about Anne Shirley and her outlook on life that was so inspiring to me when I was younger and continues to inspire me to this day.

  1. This is such a great tag, and I love your choices! I need to get my hands on Tan France’s book—he’s truly a breath of fresh air.

  2. I’m glad that you found The Dreamers really compelling; I thought it sounded amazing then saw quite a few mixed reviews and it made me hesitant to pick it up. I also keep seeing With The Fire On High mentioned lately so I’ll have to check it out sometime (:

      1. I’m hoping to get it out of the library sometime as I’m sure I remember it being there. I’ll have to check that out too then xD

  3. Genesis Begins Again and With the Fire on High are way up there on my TBR. I actually got With the Fire on High earlier this week but I still have some books I need to finish before then. I didn’t know Tan had a book, that’s so cool. This is a really cute tag, I loved your answers 🙂

  4. ahh I really need to read The Secret History eventually, it sounds like such a fascinating read 🙂
Lovely answers for this tag! 😀

      1. Anne Shirley basically inspired my love for writing in ways no other fictional female protagonist has. I love her and her imagination and her love for books so, so much. She is such a beautiful character, and I can only pray that one day I create a character at least a shade as good 🙂
