You’ve got a rich white girl, growing up in L.A. She’s gorgeous- even as a child. She has these stunning big blue eyes- dark, cobalt blue.

I feel like I am late to the party and everyone has already read and reviewed Daisy Jones and the Six, but I could not pass up the opportunity to share my thoughts on this memorable book, which I have official placed right beside The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo on my “favourites” shelf.

It is official- Taylor Jenkins Reid is brilliant.  No one brings characters to life quite like she does. I did not think that she would be able to repeat the genius that is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but I am happy to say that I was wrong.  Much like with Evelyn Hugo, it is hard to believe that this novel is a work of fiction. I kept wanting to google Daisy Jones and the Six so that I could listen to their music.  It makes me sad to know that I will never hear their songs.

I decided to listen to the audiobook for this one, and I think that it is the way to go.  The book is told through a series of interviews and they translate so well through audio. It actually feels like you are listening to a documentary of a well-known band from the seventies.  I am sure that the story of Daisy Jones and the Six is not far off from the story of many bands from that time.

Every one of the characters had depth and an interesting perspective. Of course, Daisy Jones was my favourite, but I also really loved Karen- she was a complete badass! I would read an entire book just about her.  The feminists tones throughout this story were very much appreciated.  The female characters were the most fleshed out which was refreshing in a story like this one.

I do not think that you necessarily need to be a music lover to enjoy this book, but it will certainly help.  I found the scenes that involved writing lyrics completely fascinating and I loved that the book gives the reader an inside look in to the music industry.

100% Yes! If you tried to read this book in print and it did not work for you, I highly recommend trying to audiobook.  It is almost like it was written to be told in that format.

I am curious, who is your favourite band from the 70s? I think I would have to say Genesis.  They are a band my family has always listened to and I have so many great memories attached to their music.
