I always think that I am not a huge fan of romance novels, but when I sit down and think about it there are so many romance books I have read and loved. I love reading about a slow burn romance, especially if it has the trope enemies to lovers (I just started The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren- it has this trope!!) . I do not talk about romance novels very often so I am happy that this week’s topic is allowing me to highlight a few of my favourites.
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
I have a feeling The Hating Game will be on many lists this week, and it will deserve to be there. This is the epitome of the enemies to lovers trope. I absolutely devoured this book and loved every single second of it. If you love books with great banter, this is the book for you.
The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
I also loved The Kiss Quotient by the same author, but something about The Bride Test stood out to me. I loved watching the two characters try to navigate each other’s very different personalities. They truly grow to love and respect one another over time. I loved hearing both of their perspectives. Make sure to check it out when it comes out in May!
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Spark’s novels are like a palette cleanser for me. You know what you are going to get when you read one of his novels, and that is what I appreciate about them. They are always adorable and heartbreaking! A Walk to Remember is probably by favourite of his novels. I also adore the movie.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Duh! This will always be my favourite romance. It is like the classic enemies to lovers novel. I always say that I would want Mr. Darcy for myself, but truthfully, I adore him with Elizabeth Bennet. One of my favourite romantic quotes comes from the mouth of Mr Darcy: “If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.” Swoon!
Tin Man by Sarah Winman
This book is not your typical romance. I would actually classify it more as an almost romance. It is about two friends who love each other but never take the leap. It is such a beautiful book, and very bittersweet. There were moments where it absolutely wrecked me.
Nicholas Sparks is by far one of my top 10 authors. I don’t normally read romance titles but for him I make an exception. Also yes on Pride and Prejudice. It’s my go to when I want a classic and some good old fashioned romance. Great list!

Pride and Prejudice is the ultimate romance novel. I highly recommend giving The Bride Test a try!
I don’t read much romance either anymore – but you’ve got two of my favorites up there! P&P and A Walk to Remember. But I actually wont read Sparks anything any more. Someone needs to teach that man about happy endings.

A Walk to Remember has to be my favourite romance! It’s probably the most peaceful love story and definitely the authors best!

I think I have a love-hate relationship with romance novels. I love romance in all other medias, such as shows and movies (I solely watch rom-coms), but I’ve had a lot of trouble enjoying the adult books I picked up recently. I read The Wedding Date, by Jasmine Guillory and The Kiss Quotient, by Helen Hoang and I didn’t enjoy either. I didn’t think they would be mindblowing in any way, but still, it was weird that I couldn’t wait for the book to be over. I guess my problem with both of them was the fact they’re dual perspective novels, so you, as a reader, know that the characters are in the same page, but they keep pushing each other away and not communicating at all. I know that’s the whole point of a romance novel, but I was exhausted by the end of it.
I am excited, nonetheless, to pick up The Bride Test, but more because I am excited about the idea of reading from a male autistic perspective than because I care for the romance, hahah.
I do believe my *kind* of romance is out there; I just haven’t found it yet!
I completely get where you are coming from. There is no guesswork in romance novels! I also prefer romcoms but every once in awhile I am in the book for a romance novel. I just finished The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren and it is only one perspective so you might enjoy that one. You find out what the love interest is thinking when the main character does.
The Bride Test is worth reading. The romance is sweet but to me the books shines simply because of the characters.
