At the beginning of the year I wrote a post talking about all of the reading challenges that I will be participating in in 2019. I thought it might be fun to update you every month to let you know how it is or is not going!
Goodreads Challenge
I mentioned last month that I was considering upping my Goodreads challenge, and I finally did. I have decided to change it from 52 books to 90. I might adjust it in the future if I need to. I never take this challenge too seriously, and just think it is a bit of fun!

Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge
Business Book
The Subversive Copy Editor by Carol Fisher Saller
I read this book for my Publishing program, and I would not recommend it unless you have an interest in copy editing. If it is something you are interested in pursuing, I definitely think this book is a great place to start.

Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of NIKE (Haven’t read this yet but on my TBR)
A Book By or About Someone that Identifies as Neurodiverse
The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
This book is both by and about someone won the austism spectrum. It is a wonderful romance, and the best neurodiverse rep that I have ever read. I have raved about this book so much this month, but it is just that good.

2019 Beat the Backlist
I had a lot of ARCs to catch up on this month, so I am actually pleased that I managed to read as many backlist titles as I did this month. Six of the twelve books I read this month were backlist titles. I think 50% isn’t too bad! I have also changed by backlist goal from 25 books for the year to 45. I figured if my plan was to read 90 books in 2019, I would like at least half to be backlist titles.

2017 or earlier: 2/12

You’re doing great! I’m at 38 books this year too and am considering upping my target from 75 to 100. Then again, I should probably wait until I’m closer to 75. Anything can happen in nine months.
Look at us! That is true. It is difficult to keep this pace going the entire year.

You’re doing awesome! Years ago, a parenting website that I was a part of had a reading forum, and they posted a challenge for people to read 100 books in a year. I thought, “Hey, I could do that..” And I did! Every year since then, 100 books has been my goal. The only two years I didn’t make it were years I had small children (my son was just too busy and I fell three books short, my daughter was trying to kill me via sleep deprivation and I think I only made it to 78 books that year because I could. not. focus). I’m at 53 so far this year, which isn’t bad.
Nice to see someone else doing the Book Riot Read Harder Challege- I’m kind of obsessed with it. I’m reading the business book suggestion now as well; I chose Janesville: An American Story by Amy Goldstein and it’s fascinating.I read The Cider House Rules by John Irving as the neurodiverse selection, but Helen Hoang is on my TBR list.

I just posted about The Read Harder Challenge, I’m definitely planning to read The Kiss Quotient so I’m glad to see you’ve recommended it. I’m calling Jose Andres’ We Fed an Island my “business book” because it’s all about his creation of a nonprofit to feed people in crisis. It wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. I like the Janesville suggestion, I’ve been wanting to read that.
The Kiss Quotient is a great choice. I love the idea of a book about starting a nonprofit. It too bad it didn’t live up to your expectations!
You’re doing great! I’m about 30 books away from reaching my GR reading goal, and I was actually thinking of increasing the number too. The Backlist Book Challenge you’re doing sounds like fun!
