Favourite Quotes From the Last Five Books I Read

books i lovedbut nevertalk about (1)

I have always enjoyed reading book quotes, so I decided that for 2019 I will share my favourite quotes for every five books that I read! These are quotes that stood out to me, but will in no way spoil the book for you.  I hope they give you a sense of what the book is about and the writing style!

Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig

37797266“Reading isn’t important because it helps to get you a job. It’s important because it gives you room to exist beyond the reality you’re given. It is how humans merge. How minds connect. Dreams. Empathy. Understanding. Escape.”

“Remember no one really cares what you look like. They care what they look like. You are the only person in the world to have worried about your face.”

“All a writer can do is provide a match, and hopefully a dry one. The reader has to strike the flame into being.”

The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh

The Water Cure“Step always with caution. The body is the purest sort of alarm. If something feels wrong, it probably is.”

“He spoke of bodies grown strong despite the toxic air, men like trees grown against the wind, knotted, warped. Some thrived on the poison; it was like their bodies had learned not just to overcome, but to need it.”

“It’s important, the knowledge that things could always be worse. Imagining them gone makes the edges of my love sharper.”

Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

27366528“There is kindness in the world, if we know how to look for it. If we never start denying it the door.”

“Sometimes that’s all you can do. Just keep getting through until you don’t have to do it anymore, however much time that takes, however difficult it is.”

“For others, the lure of a world where they fit is too great to escape, and they will spend the rest of their lives rattling at windows and peering at locks, trying to find the way home.”

Emma by Jane Austen

18300260“I may have lost my heart, but not my self-control. ”

“If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.”

“I always deserve the best treatment because I never put up with any other.”

“You must be the best judge of your own happiness.”

“Vanity working on a weak head produces every sort of mischief.”

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

39338454“Strange, incomprehensible, beautiful woman. She said the funniest things and smiled all the time. His fingers itched to touch that smile, and he sipped away out of self-preservation…”

“It was easier to keep people at arm’s length when it was for their own good instead of his. That way, he got to be a hero instead of a coward.”

“He was strange and tactless and very possibly an assassin, but when she looked at his actions, all she saw was kindness.”

  1. I love reading these posts, and I love the first quote you picked from Beneath the Sugar Sky, I loved that book when I read it, but also that first quote about kindness is so true!

  2. These are lovely quotes! Jane Austen is always a favorite and I bought my first Matt Haig book the other day, so I can’t wait to dive into that. I also can’t wait to read The Bride Test when it comes out!

      1. I got the Audiobook for Reasons to Stay Alive (narrated by him)! Have you read that one? I’m excited to start it — I heard it’s really good.
