January Non-Bookish Favourites

Non-BookishFavourites of 2017 (1)

I have decided to start doing monthly non-bookish favourites. I think it is fun to talk about things other than books on this blog every once in awhile, and I figured this was a great way to do it! I will talk about all of the movies, TV shows, music, food, etc I loved during the month.

Mary Poppins Returns

Emily Blunt was absolutely brilliant as Mary Poppins- I really do not think anyone else could have done the role justice. I will never get over her Oscar snub! I thought this movie had all of the charm of the original and was visually beautiful. I loved all the nods to the original Mary Poppins. Lin-Manuel Miranda was incredible as Jack. The music was also really good, if not as catchy as the original music.

Creed II

Technically I saw this movie in December, but I didn’t get a chance to talk about it so had to take this chance to rave about it! Creed II is the best movie I saw in 2018. I didn’t think it could get any better than the first movie, but Creed II far surpassed it. There is just so much freaking heart! I cried when it was over!

Instant Hotel

Instant Hotel is an Australian TV show that is on Canadian Netflix. It is a competition show where homeowners who have converted their places in to Airbnb’s stay in each other’s homes and individually judge them. It is binge-worthy and I enjoyed every second of it! There was way more drama than I was expecting!

Conversations with a Killer: Ted Bundy Tapes

As you will see in my wrap-up tomorrow, I read The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule this month. It is about Ted Bundy and it made me even more interested in his life and his crimes. Conversations with a Killer is a docu-series that was just released on Netflix and I think it really gives you an insight into the kind of person that he was. It gives me chills just to think about! I am very much looking forward to the movie about him starring Zac Efron.

Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi has an absolutely beautiful voice. There is something very bittersweet about this song and I have listened to it more times than I can count this month.

Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne

I used to adore Avril Lavigne! Sk8er Boi was my jam back in the day! I was so happy to see that she was making a new album and that her the song Head Above Water is a hit. It really is catchy and quite powerful! I can not wait for the whole album!

Farmacy Cleansing Balm

I will never remove my makeup with wipes ever again! This cleansing balm removes my makeup so quickly and leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean. I have tried a few other similar balms and non of them compare to this one. A container last for a long time so it saves me both money and is better for the environment since I am not throwing out two makeup wipes every night.

Too Faced Tickled Peach Mini Eyeshadow Palette

This little palette has become my favourite! It is very compact and sturdy so it is great for travel, and there are so many looks I can create with it. Emily Noel suggest that the pink colour can be used as a blush and the light colour as a highlight, which I have done and it looks beautiful. It smells like peaches, which is a bonus for me but I know will turn some people off.

Marshmallow Fireside Candle

This used to be my favourite candle but I haven’t had one for years. I received one for Christmas and was instantly reminded why I love it so much. It has a smokey but sweet scent that fills the room. I highly recommend it!

  1. I still haven’t seen the new Mary Poppins movie! I need to finally watch it. I loved the original movie so much and when the trailer released for this one, I was so teary eyed! I started to watch a couple episodes of the Ted Bundy tapes. I can’t wait to watch more.

  2. I can relate to this post so much! I absolutely adored Mary Poppins Returns (it made me quite teary eyed) and Instant Hotel.I was and still am a Sk8er boi girl, and I’m so happy Avril is back with new music! I’ve also always wanted to try Too Faced, and that palette looks like a dream!

    1. Mary Poppins Return made me tear up as well. So charming! Avril is amazing. I have had Sk8er Boi stuck in my head all day! I highly recommend the palette. It’s a great way to try out the brand and it’s not ridiculously expensive!

  3. Oh the Ted Bundy tapes were so good!!!! I just watched Abducted in Plain Sight on Netflix as well. You should give that a watch. It’s a 90 minute movie.

      1. Lots of people feel that way about the parents. I felt they were being controlled by sociopath but I would let an adult male take my daughter anywhere for sure.

      2. I definitely can see how they would be manipulated. I just don’t understand how their daughter was missing for the long and they didn’t call the police. Even if you didn’t think he had kidnapped her, what if they got in to some kind of an accident? I get the feeling there is more to the story that they aren’t saying, but then again I haven’t finished it yet!

      3. I get it. But I think in the early 70s that kind of stuff didn’t happen like it does now. I’m not excusing them at all. They basically tanked the FBI investigation.
