I have a couple posts talking about a few of my most anticipated 2019 releases and I am hoping to get to all of them this year! The five books that I am talking about are backlist and have been on my shelves for ages. I have mentioned a few of these on multiple occasions and I really need to just walk the walk and finally read them!
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
I can not believe that it is 2019 and I have yet to read The Handmaid’s Tale! I have read many books that have been compared to it but never actually picked it up! This is the year that I do. I have a basic understanding of the story but I want to know why it is so talked about and maybe even try the TV series. Atwood is also releasing a sequel this year so maybe I will read that as well!
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
How many times have I talked about how I want to read American Gods?! Too many to count! Someone needs to hold me accountable and make me actually read it! I love mythology and Neal Gaiman’s writing so I truly have no excuse. I am committing to getting to it sooner rather than later!
Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty
I really enjoy Liane Moriarty’s novels! They are pure entertainment and my go to books when I feel a reading slump coming on. I am quite confident that I will read Nine Perfect Strangers at some point this year. I have a few of her other books on shelves that I wouldn’t mind getting to in 2019!
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck wrote my favourite novel- Cannery Row- and East of Eden is often hailed as his best novel. I think part of me has been putting it off because it might just become my new favourite novel and I don’t think I am ready for that! I have started it though and its beautiful!
Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Gemina is a book I have been wanting to read since I read the first book, Illuminae, in 2017! Everyone says that Gemina is even better and I know I am going to love it! It is just such a big and heavy book so I really have to sit down and commit to it. I also have the third and final book in the series so maybe I will binge read them! Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are also releasing the first book in a new series this year and I would love to finish their first series before I start their next one!

I hope you will love The Handmaid’s Tale. It is such a good book, for example, in the way we root for Offred and the dystopian setting.
I hope so too! I have high hopes for it!
I want to read something Neil Gaiman this year, but I think I’ll more likely go for one of his children’s books, like Coraline. I’m not sold enough on him yet to tackle a long book by him.
I think that is the way to go! His writing is unique so I think it’s best to start with a short one to see if you mesh with it!
Oooh now curious about Liane Moriarty’s books if it gets one out of a slump… 🤔

I haven’t got around “Nine Perfect Strangers” and “American Gods” yet either- and they’re staring at me from my bookshelves (well, “American Gods” from my Kindle… but that doesn’t help)… fingers crossed we get to read them in 2019!
I am looking at both of those as we speak! I hope we both get to them this year!
I loved Gemina and read it in 2018. I have Obsidio ready to read this year. So many great books. So little time!

Gemina is definitely big, but I found it to be a pretty fast read… and I’m not a particularly fast reader.
I guess because it is mixed media it is not as big as I imagine!
The Illuminae series now sits proudly on my shelf and is only waiting to be read!
They are beautiful books to have on your shelves. I hope we both read the whole series this year!

I would offer to buddy-read it with you, but I’ve only just stopper crying from the events of that book… oh, and I have 163 other books to read before I start thinking about re-reads.

The Handmaid’s Tale was soo good! You need to read it! Everyone needs to read it. I can’t wait for Atwood’s new novel coming out later this year, The Testaments.
I am ashamed that I haven’t read it yet! It does seem to be a book everyone should read and the fact that she is writing a sequel is the push I needed to finally get to it!
I really want to get to Nine Perfect Strangers this year, too. I’ve loved most of her previous novels!
I love that I can pick up one of her books and know what to expect but still be shocked by the twists and turns!

This looks like a pretty nice mash-up, but why the big gap between reading Illuminae and Gemina?
I’m not really sure! I have never been good at finishing series and I think part of the problem is that I read a lot on the go and Gemina is such a big book. It’s not easy to travel with!
Yeah, big books can be menacing at times, especially with reading goals
I really loved The Handmaid’s Tale. Though, it can get a bit difficult to take at times but overall I loved it. I hope you like it as well 😊

I also really want to read The Handmaid’s Tale this year! I haven’t read the book or watched the series, but I feel like it’s a must. I also recently read Illuminae and want to continue the series. I hope you’ll be able to read (and enjoy) all of these books!

Nine Perfect Strangers is on my to-read list too! I feel your pain of having a book back log. I’m working my way through mine this year as well!

American Gods is worth the read but it is weird, beware.
