Over a year ago, I talked about my auto-buy authors! I still loved all of these authors and talk about them all of the time. Today, I wanted to shine some light on authors I have fell in love with since then or do not talk about enough! I feel as though I talk so much about books that I love, and not enough about the people who write them.
Miriam Toews
Miriam Toews is my favourite author who I discovered in 2018. I appreciate that she writes her fiction novels coming from a place of experience. I also love that she is a Canadian! I decided to start 2019 with one of her novels (All My Puny Sorrows) and it has become an instant favourite. There are few people who can write real and raw characters as masterfully as she can!
Liane Moriarty
No one can keep me entertained and on the edge of my seat quite like Liane Moriarty! When I need a book that has depth but is also just plain fun, I will pick up one of her novels. I am trying to savour them! I think my favourite of hers is The Husband’s Secret. It has so many twists and turns and constantly surprised me.
Robin Benway
I read Audrey, Wait! many years ago and I remember very much enjoying it at the time. That said, the book that truly made me fall in love with Robin Benway was Far From the Tree. The sibling relationships are some of the best that I have ever read. I adored the characters and seeing them explore their relationships. I own Emmy & Oliver and have only heard great things about it.
Katherine Arden
I am always blown away by Katherine Arden’s writing! There is something so enchanting about the characters and the settings that she creates. The Bear and the Nightingale is one of the most atmospheric novels I have ever read, and it is the only one that truly made me feel cold just from reading it. It was incredible! I also really enjoyed her middle grade novel, Small Spaces. I thought it was fun and spooky, and it made me afraid of scarecrows! I cannot wait to see what she writes in the future and to continue of with The Winternight Trilogy!
Sylvain Neuvel
If you have been around my blog for awhile, seeing Sylvain Neuvel’s name on this list will come as no surprise! The Themis Files is one my favourite, if not my favourites, series ever! I just think it is brilliant in every way. His novella, The Test, is brilliant and took a turn I wasn’t expecting. I will read anything that Neuvel writes.
Alice Hoffman
I loved the movie Practical Magic when I was younger, and I still watch it every Halloween, so technically I was a fan of Alice Hoffman before ever reading one of her novels! The Rules of Magic, which is a prequel to Practical Magic, is my favourite books of hers and is also my favourite book about witches! It is very much character driven and has interesting and dynamic sibling relationships! I also really enjoyed The Story Sisters and Magic Lessons, and I own many of her novels that I hope to get to soon!
This is just a handful of some of my favourite authors who I wanted to highlight! I hope to write more posts like this in the future!

I’ve only read one book by Arden and a couple of Hoffman’s but agree that they are wonderful writers. They are a little heavy on descriptions for me (my brain struggles to process descriptions) but I do love their stories. Faithful is probably my favourite of Hoffman’s although the only other book of hers I’ve read is Rules of Magic.
I still need to read Faithful! It is high on my list. I tend to gravitate toward descriptive writing but completely understand why it is not for everyone!

I listened to a podcast recently with Robin Benway and I am so excited to read her books now. In the podcast, she talked a lot about how it was hard for her to find a story she finally connected with, and when she did, it ended up being Far from the Tree. There’s so much about her own personal story that it is fascinating, as well as the way she talks about her characters and her plots. If her books are anything like the way she describes them, I’m sure I’ll have a wonderful time reading it!
