Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!! (Thanksgiving Book Tag)

Untitled design (64)

This time last year I talked about a few of the books that I am thankful for, so I thought I would mix it up and do a Thanksgiving book tag! There really is a tag for everything!  Just answering these questions made me very hungry.  I hope all of my fellow Canadians are having an amazing weekend with friends, family, and plenty of delicious food.  I am so thankful for you all!

1. Bread- What book is purely fluff, and has no real plot line?

Love, Life, and the List by Kasie West

35068742

This book is really just a cute YA romance with not a lot of depth or plot, and I was completely okay with that. I picked it up because all I wanted was something adorable and light, and that is exactly what Love, Life, and the List gave me! I do not think every book you read has to have some great plot or meaning.

2. Turkey- What book made you want to fall asleep?

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

6482837

More like “Can this book end Before I Fall asleep?!” I know so many people really love this book but I have discovered that I do not enjoy story-lines where the same day repeats over and over again.  I just find it really boring!

3. Gravy- What book makes the whole series worth reading?

Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel

30134847

While The Themis Files is one of my favourite series of all time, Waking Gods is truly the highlight.  It is the second book in the trilogy, and thankfully it does not suffer from second book syndrome! It seems that other people agree with me because it is the highest rated book of the three on Goodreads.  There is so much great action and character development!

4. Stuffing- What book is stuffed full of action scenes?

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

35068705

I am not someone who loves high-fantasy novels or books with one action scene after another, but The Poppy War is the one exception. The world that R.F. Kuang creates lends itself perfect to the action and fight scenes that take place.  They never felt heavy handed or unnecessary.

5. Mashed Potatoes- What book looked good, and then wasn’t?

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

22544764

What!? Mashed potatoes are my favourite part of Thanksgiving, but then again, my mom makes KILLER mashed potatoes.  To answer the question, I have to go with Uprooted.  The cover is absolutely stunning and it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling (my favourite Disney movie), but it just didn’t work for me.  There are few romances that I despise more than the one in this book…

6. Cranberries- What book has the sweetest romance?

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

36199084

Have I been talking about The Kiss Quotient too much lately?? No shame! The romance is just so swoon-worthy and I love both main characters individually and as a couple, which you don’t always find in romance.

7. Corn- What’s the corniest book you’ve ever read?

Related image

It has to be any and all of Nicholas Sparks books. Yes, you heard that right, I have read them ALL! They are an absolutely guilty pleasure for me and even though I know his formula and that he always writes sad endings, they still get to me every single time!

8. Green beans- What book is too long and needs to be shortened?

The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth

40801157

Do not get me wrong, I really enjoyed this book and there was a lot I loved about it, but it definitely could have been quite a bit shorter.  The first half of the novel drags on at some points, and I felt that there were certain scenes that were unnecessary.  I read some reviews and there are quite a few people who DNF’d it because it was slow, which is a shame because the second half is brilliant.

9. Pumpkin Pie- What book do you read to get out of a reading slump?

I try a lot of things! I will turn to an old favourite, put on a audiobook instead, try a genre that is out of my comfort zone, or pick up a book that is light and fluffy.  Nothing gets me out of a reading slump faster then an adorable contemporary romance! I have also found that thrillers really help because they are often page-turners.

10. Dog/Cat- What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food that you would steal from the table?

I always says that I would have Thanksgiving dinner for my last meal, so this is such a hard question for me.  I would steal everything except for the turkey.  I am not that big in to turkey but I love all of the sides! Give me mashed potatoes, dressing, and a slice of pumpkin pie and I am a happy girl!

  1. I felt the same way about Uprooted! I was so excited to read it because I had heard great things about it and the premise sounded really interesting; however, I got about 100 pages in and put it down, which I very rarely do. I just couldn’t get into it for some reason.

    Great tag! Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

  2. Felt the same way about Before I Fall. I thought it was good but the days repeating so many times got annoying; it didn’t have to happen THAT many times.

And Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the day and all those amazing sides!! 😊

  3. Happy Thanksgiving! 😀 I hope you had a great day with good food and great company! 🙂 I agree with you 100% for question 5, I think mashed potatoes are the best! Plus I couldn’t get into Uprooted either; there was just something about it that turned me off of it!
