F.R.I.E.N.D.S Book Tag

I was so excited when Roxanne from An Average Life tagged me to do the F.R.I.E.N.D.S Book tag! It is my favourite TV show!! She created this tag and it is really clever.

A book based on a game or competition:

Warcross by Marie Lu

37771077

This book is about a virtual reality game called Warcross. I need to read more books that have to do with virtual reality because I find it so fascinating. Warcross is such a fun book and very entertaining. I am so excited to read the sequel!

Organization Queen- How do you organize your books?

I have very little to no organizational system for my books! I put them wherever I can find a spot. There are stacks of books everywhere!! I did just buy a TBR cart though so that has been helpful. It is nice to have the books that I still have to read all in one area.

RACHEL

A book you read for the hype:

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

23437156

It took me years to finally pick of Six of Crows because I thought there was no way it could live up to all of the hype.  I was so wrong.  I fell in love with this cast of characters!

Shopping Addict- What makes you buy a book?

I actually just wrote a blog post about all the reasons why I add a book to my TBR! I will post a link here in case you are interested.

ROSS

A science fiction book:

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

25786523

This is the latest SciFi novel that I have read and completely fallen in love with.  The world is so well thought out and there is an amazing group of diverse characters.  Becky Chambers is a genius.

On a break- Which books have you put down to pick back up later?

I started The Heart’s Invisible Furies recently and it was excellent but I had just read so many heavy and long books that I wasn’t in the mood for it. I am planning on picking it up again next month because I know I am going to love it.

CHANDLER

A book that made you laugh out loud:

The Martian by Andy Weir

18007564

I was not expecting The Martian to be funny in an way, and I was so surprised to find that there are some one-liners that are absolutely hysterical.  Mark Watney has an amazing and sarcastic sense of humour which was refreshing considering the situation that he was in.

That time at Space Mountain- Are there any books you’re embarrassed to admit you’ve read?

I have read Fifty Shades of Grey… and not just the first book but the whole series including the book ‘Grey’ which is told from Christian’s perspective… I have seen all of the movies too…

A scary book you’d keep in the freezer:

Night Film by Marisha Pessl

18770398

The entire book is creepy and gave me chills, but there are a few chapters near the end that kept me up at night! So good!

V is for Encyclopedia- As an adult, have you read any books with words you had to look up to understand?

I am currently reading Transcription by Kate Atkinson and there have already been a few times where I had to put the book down to look up a word.  I absolutely love that about reading! There is always something new to learn!

PHOEBE

A book with a spiritual or supernatural theme:

Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

34037113

I feel like I have been talking about this book a lot lately, but it is just so great and makes me think of Fall.  I appreciated that the magic felt like it was rooted in reality, and the book was really about the characters and their relationships.

The boycott- Are there any authors, booksellers or publishers you refuse to support?

There are a few authors I avoid, and I have added a lot to that list recently. I completely understand separating the art from the artist but I have a hard time doing it!

JANICE

A book with an OH MY GOD twist:

I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh

23125266

There is something that happens about halfway through this book that I did not see coming.  It took the story in a completely different direction that I was expecting and I absolutely loved that!

A British classic:

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

14800526

I actually have not read North and South yet but it is high on my TBR.  I just read The Victorian and the Romantic and every other chapters follows Elizabeth Gaskell.  I am now intrigued by her and her novels.  I can not wait to read this one!

GUNTHER

A book nobody seems to be talking about:

The Ensemble by Aja Gabel

34937311

This book is very character driven and not a lot happens, but I really loved it.  I am drawn to stories that involve music in some way, and I also loved that we got to follow these characters over many years.  I do not see a lot of people talking about it and I wish more people would give it a chance!

CAROL AND SUSAN

An LGBTQ+ book or author:

Boy Erased by Garrard Conley

26109438

This is actually Garrard Conley’s memoir about his time at a conversion camp.  It is horrifying and eye-opening.  It is also brave and gorgeously written.  I am very much looking forward to the movie.

EDDIE

A book or character with intense/stalker vibes:

The Dinner by Herman Koch

15797938

This book doesn’t have an stalker vibes but it is definitely intense. It is not my favourite book by any means, but it did really get under my skin and there were moments that were very creepy.

MIKE

A slow burning book OR romance novel:

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

36199084

I loved watching this relationship develop! I am such a sucker for the fake-relationship trope and The Kiss Quotients is one of my favourites.  The characters are quirky and completely different from one another but they have so much chemistry!

RICHARD

A book that left you feeling accomplished or better educated:

The Invention of Nature by Andrea Wulf

23995249

I have raved about this book so many times now but it taught me so much! I knew absolutely nothing about Alexander Von Humboldt and now I have great respect for him and the influence that he had on many well known scientist, philosophers, and writers.

BONUS QUESTION:

Which F.R.I.E.N.D.S character do you most identify with?

A mix between Chandler and Rachel!  I have a sarcastic sense of humour so I completely relate to Chandler in that way. Other than that, I am such a Rachel. Every “Which Friends Character are You?” quiz tells me that I am a Rachel and they are so right.

  1. A Rachel/Chandler mix sounds awesome! Now that I think about it, I’m probably that same mix, but a greater percentage of Chandler than Rachel. Great list!

  2. Such a creative prompt! I loved it!
I also found North and South delightful. If I had to complain about anything of the book, it’d be a sorta rushed ending. Other than that, perfect! One reviewer summed it up perfectly, I think – “North and South is Pride and Prejudice for Capitalists”. Hahaha.

  3. I actually just did this tag and have it scheduled for later next week :] (we used a lot of the same GIFs haha!) I just LOVED this tag! This show is such a good one, one that I really appreciate at all different times in my life. I am glad to see it out and about on other blogs too :]

  4. BEST TAG EVER!!! How have I not seen this tag before?! I am SO doing this tag. I also totally relate with both Rachel and Chandler. My apparent sarcastic humour is definitely one of the many traits that I relate to Chandler with haha!! Great list!
