July Non-Bookish Favourites

Non-BookishFavourites of 2017 (1)

I have decided to start doing monthly non-bookish favourites. I think it is fun to talk about things other than books on this blog every once in awhile, and I figured this was a great way to do it! I will talk about all of the movies, TV shows, music, food, etc I loved during the month.

Ant Man and The Wasp

I watched a lot of movies in July, but a lot of them were old favourites that I love, such as She’s the Man and The Sandlot.  The only new movie that I watched and love was Ant Man and the Wasp.  I love Paul Rudd, and thought this movie was really funny.  I was entertained the entire time, and think I enjoyed it even more than the first movie.  Make sure you stay for the after credit scene because it is important!

Sugar Rush

I love cooking shows, and thought Sugar Rush was original and really well done.  I love that the quicker you move through the first two rounds the more time you have for the final round.  There were a lot of really delicious looking desserts, and a lot that make me think ‘WTF!’

The Five

This mini-series was absolutely brilliant! I was riveted! It is a mystery and I think it is best to go in to in knowing very little about it.  There were so many twists and turns and it kept me guessing the entire time.  I also fell in love with a lot of the characters. especially Slade who is a good guy with a dark side.  The final episode had me in tears! A must watch!

Masterchef Australia

As much as I love Gordon Ramsey, I think that Masterchef Australia is better than the original.  The challenges that they have are always unique and interesting, and I honestly think that the contestants are much more talented.  The dishes that they come up with always blow me away! It is also a surprisingly endearing show because the contestants are all so great and watching them cheer each other on and form friendships based on their love of food is great to see!

Rolled Ice Cream

The beach town that my family has a place in has a place that just opened up that sells rolled ice cream.  It is just cream and fruit, and you watch them make it right there in front of you.  It is fun to watch and tastes delicious!

Kombucha Tea

This town also sells Kombucha Tea, which has so many health benefits! It is definitely an acquired taste but I have grown to really enjoy it.  My favourite is the strawberry basil flavour.  Here is an article discussing all the health benefits in case you are interested.

Rimmel Spice Palette

I am so impressed with the pigmentation and colour selection in this palette! It is also really affordable!  The matte purple is absolute gorgeous, and I have loved playing around with different looks.  There is a lot you can do with this palette!

Raine Hamilton

Raine Hamilton is a Canadian musician and I saw her at a free concert on the beach recently.  She completely blew me away! She is so talented.  Her voice is beautiful and all of the songs that she writes are excellent.  I also just liked her as a person.  She seemed very genuine and really sweet!  I instantly added a ton of her music to my Spotify playlist.

I would love to know what your non-bookish favourites were this month! Also, have you tried kombucha tea? What did you think?

  1. The Five sounds like something i should totally watch 🙂

There’s an ice cream shop near my office that does similar ice cream. I think… they have a picture of it outside the shop but i haven’t actually been there yet. 😀

  2. I wasn’t expecting Ant-Man and the Wasp to be as good as it was, but now it’s one of my favorite Marvel movies! ❤️

  3. Oh I really want to watch Sugar Rush and I’m glad to hear that you’ve enjoyed it so much!! It looks like a lot of fun and kind of reminds me of Nailed It! 🙂 I have been really enjoying Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, it’s very expensive so I only buy it when it’s on sale, but it is the best ice cream that there is 😀

  4. Yay, glad you loved The Five! I just started watching it last night…3 episodes and am loving it so far, so I’m glad that it will be worth the watch!! Tears at the end…oh my! now I want to finish it! That ice cream looks and sounds amazing!

      1. I just watched episodes 4-7 and wow!! I want to stay up and watch the rest, but I have to get to bed at some time tonight, lol. But it is definitely intense!! I wasn’t sure about Slade at all the 1st couple of episodes, but you are right, he is great! I’ll finish the show tomorrow I’m sure (then I have no idea what to watch, lol),

      2. I am…I swear I thought he was a bad guy and going to kill Brittany and then,, omg 🙁 I was just floored and cried. I’m not sure I’m a big fan of Pru’s though…she seems awfully whiny at times, lol. And her hubby is a jerk. I’ll definitely have the show finished tonight! Did you watch Safe? I just finished it over the weekend. It’s also by Harlan Coben, and it was really good too! If you haven’t watched it, I recommend it!

      3. I just finished the series, and yes, I was in tears! Oh my! I was a nervous wreck by the end not knowing what was going to happen, but I love how it ended. Glad I’m not the only one who found her annoying. You’re welcome; I do think I liked The Five better though after finishing it, but both are really good shows…wonder of Coben will do another one!

  5. That is quite a multifaceted review.
I love the Marvel movies too, the Iron Man ones being my particular favourites.
Though I wasn’t expecting much of the Antman and the Wasp, but now will watch it as well as The Five.

Cooking shows are such fun to watch even if you don’t cook much yourself. A bit like watching sports even though you’re not sporty yourself.

      1. Hahaha sorry, I meant The Five. Idk why I said The Past hahaha. I think bec of the tiny comments written down lol. But yes, I think I shall start tonight!

  6. Masterchef Australia is one of the best shows on TV. Here in the UK, our version is a little dry. I love how everyone in the Australian one is a good sport and it’s a bit more lighthearted!

  7. Ooh!! Rolled ice cream? I’ve heard of it and I really want to try it, sounds cool and delicious! Also, I’ve watched a few episodes of Sugar Rush and I like it too! But do you ever try to guess which team is going to be eliminated but not guess right? Because that happens with me! I’d be so sure one team did an amazing job and that they will stay, but then they end up being eliminated.

  8. I have yet to try rolled ice cream! I hope it’s still around when I’m able to have sugar again, it looks so good. Ant-man and Wasp was really good! I also enjoyed Mamma Mia 2! For other non- bookish… I love the Modern Renaissance palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills! Been wearing it all month. I got a purple backpack purse by Lauren Conrad that I’m in love with! Also, a mini happy planner that is floral themed. Perfect to carry around in my purse!

    1. I hope so too! It’s really delicious and interested to watch them make it! I really want to see Mamma Mia 2! I have heard good things about it. Ah I love Lauren Conrad. I am going to have to check that out. I am all about florals so that sounds lovely!

      1. I can’t wait for you to see Mamma Mia, so we can talk about it! haha. I totally am going to do a favorites post too. This is just so fun, sometimes not to do something bookish! Lauren Conrad is the best!! I’ll add all that to my post with links :):)

  9. Great post, it’s nice once and again to share personal things you love lately, and to look back to it in the future 🙂 I watched one episode of Sugar Rush and it’s definitely a fun and unique take on baking/cooking shows.

  10. Ant-Man and the Wasp was so good! The first after credits scene was crazy too. (I won’t give it away here.) I’ll have to check out The Five. We’ve been trying to find a new show to get into.

  11. I love Antman! It’s one of my faves in the MCU just because of how tight and clean it is, so I’m glad the second was better for you. (I have yet to watch it myself!) And it’s cool to hear Masterchef Australia is better; I’d been meaning to check the show out since I love cooking shows. 😉
