Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. This week’s topic is perfect for me! I have said it before and I will say it again, I am not a big rereader and I wish I was. I almost feel guilty picking up a book I have already read when there are so many different stories out there waiting to be read! I am determined to get better at this and choosing five books to reread is probably a realistic place to start.
Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore
Wild Beauty was a beautiful story and I am a huge fan of magical realism when it is done well. Wild Beauty might be the best use of magical realism that I have ever read! I read this at the beginning of the fall last year and for some reason I am being pulled to read it again around that time. I have a vivid memory of the feelings that I had while reading it and I hope that it still has the same affect on me the second time around.
The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom
The Five People You Meet in Heaven is one of the few books that I have reread multiple times, and continue to love. The sequel, The Next People You Meet In Heaven, is coming out in October and I am fortunate enough to be attending a book signing so I would love to reread not only The Five People You Meet in Heaven but his entire body of work as well. He is one of my autobuy authors and I am beyond thrilled that I will have the opportunity to meet him!
All of Khaled Hosseini’s books
Khaled Hosseini is another one of my auto-buy authors and I have been meaning to reread all of his books for some time now. I squealed out loud when I saw that he was publishing a new book this year called Sea Prayer. It is coming out on September 18th, and now is the perfect time to reread his backlist before picking up Sea Prayer. I can not put in to words how excited I am to experience his stories again!
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
You all know by now how much I absolutely LOVE A Man Called Ove. It is one of my favourite books and I adore Ove as a character. This is one of the few books that I can picture myself reading over and over again for years to come. It is just so charming with moments that are both laugh out loud funny and utterly heartbreaking. It is also being made in to a movie starring Tom Hanks, so I need to reread it before that comes out!
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
I read A Great and Terrible Beauty years ago and remember thinking it was fantastic. I wanted to continue on with the series but just never got around to it for one reason or another. So many years have passed that I forgot the majority of what happens in the first book, and lately I have been wanting to finish the series. I would definitely have to reread A Great and Terrible Beauty in order to do that!

I have been meaning to read a great and terrible beauty
I really enjoyed it the first time I read it!
I will tell you that A Great & Terrible Beauty does not hold up. It was fresh and new when it was released, because it was the first of the magical boarding school trope-novels, but it just does not hold up very well at all once you’re past the age of, say, fourteen.
Hmm that’s good to know. I still want to try it but if I can’t get through it I will DNF it for sure!
My roommate saw me reading it a few months ago, and asked to borrow it. She read the whole series, and her opinion was, “It would have been fresh when it was written, 15ish years ago or so, but it’s just another one in the pile at this point.”
Great list! Ove also made my list. I totally forgot about Kite Runner! Would def reread that. I have all of all his books. Most of the books on my shelves that I have read have been reread.

Wow, you sure do like Khaled Hosseini, I have read the kite runner which was good and my eyes have been on the mountains echoed which I found in the local bookstore

I really want to read A Man Called Ove and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, they have been on my list for a long time and from your recommendations, it seems like I need to bump them up closer to the top!

I still haven’t read any of Khaled Hosseini’s books and I am kicking myself. I really need to get around to it, I’ve heard so many incredible things about them. But I have so many other books to read too!! The struggle is real!!

I am the same with rereading. I rarely ever reread books, because I have so many other books that I own and want to read too. If I do reread a book, I usually listen to the audiobook as I am working and then keep my other books that I haven’t read for me to read when I’m not working. I definitely need to reread The Five People You Meet in Heaven with the sequel coming out. I actually won an ARC of the sequel on Goodreads! It’s been way to long since I’ve read the first book, so I need to reread before I start the sequel.
I just recently fell in love with audiobooks and that is how I plan on rereading all of these if I can! I’m so jealous that you won the sequel!! I can not wait to see what you think!
I’ve heard so many great things about Khaled Hosseini. I actually have The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, but have yet to crack them open. I guess I really should get around to reading them huh? 😛
I do love the idea of re-reading, but the fact that I have so many other books that I need to check out for the first time makes it hard for me to take the time to re-read. I know when I get older I’ll turn around, stop and reread some of my faves. Great post, Kristin! 🙂

I’m not the biggest fan of rereading {I have no idea why} but I do try to do an annual reread of Harry Potter. Basically because the books are just so magical and it’s become somewhat of a tradition by now!
I really want to read Wild Beauty – it has the most amazing cover and I’ve heard the story is equally as good. It is definitely on my TBR to read before the end of the year.

I almost never re-read any book (who has time with so many books I still haven’t read lol) but I did appreciate this post (picked up some more adds for my TBR – including some books I knew about but didn’t feel drawn to until you explained why they drew you in). In the spirit of this post, I will share that one book that comes to mind (can’t swear I re-read all of it but certainly sections – I do re-read sections of the books I can’t let go from time to time) is Second Heaven by Judith Guest – she does compelling character work and that drew me in.
