Beautiful Naked Hardbacks

Top5Tuesday

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. This week’s topic is one of my favourites! There is nothing I love more than taking off the dust jacket and finding a surprise on the naked hardback! I went through a lot of my hardback’s and very few of them actually had a design on the cover. I wish publishers would do that more often!

The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

This series was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this week’s topic! These books are so beautiful and completely different from any other books that I own! I love how the covers are made to look like classified files and they suit the story perfectly. I still have to read Gemina and Obsidio, but I know I will love them!

The Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel

I have said this so many times but The Themis Files is my favourite series and the books are absolutely stunning! I do not own Sleeping Giants in hardcover, but Waking Gods and Only Human are two of the most beautiful books that I own. This series has a special place on my shelf!

The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone

I think The Unlikelies has my favourite naked hardcover! It is so fun and summery! I talked about this book in my post about my summer reading recommendations because everything about it, including the cover, is perfect for this time of year. Just seeing this makes me want to reread it by the pool!

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

I like that this cover is simply but impactful! You know instantly what this book is about! It is also a book that I really enjoyed. I have not read the second book, Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu, yet or even seen it! I am curious to see what is under it’s dust jacket as well.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

What I like about the naked hardback of The Night Circus is that it is simple yet elegant. This is a classy design! I do not talk about The Night Circus very often on my blog because I feel like I have some unpopular opinions about it. I enjoyed it but I wasn’t in love with it! I was expecting it to be more atmospheric and magical I guess and wasn’t a huge fan of the romance. It is still a beautiful book and a fun story.

Copper_Foil_Overlay_13I would love to know what you favourite naked hardbacks are! There are so many that I love that I do not own and would love to get my hands on!kkbLogo

  1. I love this! One of my favorite things about only buying hardcover copies of books is that sometimes the actual cover can hold a little surprise beneath the dust jacket. I love it so much I wont even look at the cover beneath the jacket until I am reading the book, and then it’s like this little surprise gift that makes picking up the book that much more memorable.
The first time I discovered my appreciation for this was when I was reading the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I’d seen hardcovers with embossing or what have you, but that was the first book that felt like it was a little tucked away secret that I stumbled upon. Great post. You’ve selected some good ones!

    1. Ah you have so much more patience than me! I have to look under the dust jacket right away! It’s so exciting when there is a surprise under there. I have not seen Miss Peregrines! I have the paperback editions! I will have to take a look. Thank you!

  2. I LOVE the covers of the Illuminae books. I’m hoping I’ll get through the first one eventually; I’ve tried twice but haven’t managed to get past the first 100 pages yet.

I love the UK naked hardbacks of the Caraval/Legendary books. They are so pretty.

  3. I totally forgot about the Illuminae Files covers but they are really great!

The Unlikelies one is so cute and summery!

  4. I am loving seeing all these beautiful hardback covers!! I agree about the Illuminae Files. I love those books so much, inside and out. 🙂

  5. I have the first two on my list as well! I didn’t know that that’s what the Unlikelies looked like underneath! I only have the ARC so I don’t have the beautiful hardcover! Great choices.
Thanks for participating – added you to the list 🙂

  6. The Unlikelies is so pretty, I’m definitely going to be looking around to see if I can get my hands on it haha!

  7. I like your choice, Themis Files covers look so beautiful! 😍 They are definitely on my TBR list.

I recently bought Language of Thorns (hardback) by Leigh Bardugo and really love its magical cover. 💕:)

  8. These are such gorgeous covers! Great post. The Themis Files series has such beautiful designs on the covers wow! I really like Morgan Matson’s hardcover books because there’s always an interesting photo or drawing on the inside of the dust jacket. Also, one hardcover that I love that doesn’t have a dust jacket is The Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot De Villeneuve. The gold writing and illustrations are so well done and add so much to the cover.

  9. Those covers for The Themis Files are so cool! I love the cover for The Unlikelies so much. I really enjoyed the book, so I need to get me a copy to put on my shelves. The author has another book called The Loose Ends List and the naked cover is just like the Unlikelies with fun designs and colorful.
