Books That Need a Prequel

Top5Tuesday

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. This week is a freebie and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do a past topic that I missed out on! I am going to talk about five books that need to have a prequel! I have not read a lot of prequels but I am all for them, if they are done well!

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

A Man Called Ove is one of my favourite books ever, and Ove is a character who I absolute adore. It would be amazing to have a prequel to this book that follows Ove meeting his wife and following their love story! We get little snippets of Ove’s youth throughout the book, but I want more!! I need to know everything there is to know about this grumpy but completely you charming character.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Much like A Man Called Ove, Eleanor Oliphant is one of my favourite characters and I want a prequel story about her childhood. I do not want to spoil the story so I will simply say that Eleanor had a difficult childhood, and I think it would be interesting to get more of an insight in to her past and how she ended up as the person she was at the beginning of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

A prequel to Never Let Me Go could be very interesting! Again, I can not say exactly the kind of prequel that I would want without spoiling the book, but I am curious about how the decision was made to create the private schools, and all of the ethical questions that went in to that decision. I think it would be interesting to have a book set at this same private school, but during the first year it was open and what that looked like.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I know I am not the only one who absolutely loves Starr’s parents! I want to know their stories, and how they met and fell in love! What were they like when they were Starr’s age? I need these answers!

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

SURPRISE! Of course I had to include Harry Potter! I think we all want a prequel that centres around The Marauders. I have faith that this will happen one day!

This was so fun! I have never thought about which books I would love a prequel for before. I would love to know which books you would love a prequel for and/or any prequels that you love. I have not read a lot of prequels but my favourite is probably Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman, which is a prequel for Practical Magic!
