I thought this week’s topic was really interesting because it is not something that I ever thought about before! Surely if I loved a book, there is a chance that I would read it in the future right? The more that I thought about it and looked at books that I loved, the more that I realized that that is not necessarily the case. There are actually many different reasons as to why I might choose not to reread a book I love!
The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis
I read The Female of the Species in March and thought it was fantastic, but I knew instantly that I would never read it again. It talks about some very heavy issues that are triggers for me. I really appreciate how everything was handle and the overall message and I am so happy that I read it. I just don’t think it is something I would emotionally put myself through again.
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
I was completely blown away by Fight Club! I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. I was so surprised by the ending, and obviously I would not experience the same shock upon a reread. I am sure that I would find some foreshadowing and clues if I reread it, and that might be interesting but I loved my first reading experience so much that I do not want to overshadow it.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is such a beautifully devastating book that I do not think I could read it again. It tore my heart apart! I can’t even make myself watch the movie much less reread it! I do want to read all of his other books though!
Night Film by Marisha Pessl
Night Film is my favourite horror/thriller! It is written in such a unique way and I loved my whole experience reading it. That said, I know the ending so I do not think that I would feel the same terror if I read it for a second time!
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
Murder of the Orient Express was my first Agatha Christie novel and I fell in love with it! This is another case where I know the ending so rereading it would not feel the same. There are so many other Agatha Christie novels that I want to read so I would want to get through all of those before I would even considered rereading any of them.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I really loved The Hunger Games when I first read them but I think my reading tastes have changed since then. I rarely read series, yet alone reread them! I do love this story and I think if I want to revisit it I will just watch the movie!
The Martian by Andy Weir
I really did love The Martian, and I especially adored the main character, but the thought of rereading it does not appeal to me. There is a lot of science lingo that I admittedly skimmed and I found it repetitive at times. It was a fun book but I do not think I will gain much more from it if I were to read it again.
The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
I do not think I would ever reread any of Liane Moriarty’s books and it is not because I disliked them, because I LOVE them, it is because I do not think they are the kind of books that are meant to be reread. Throughout the whole book you are at the edge of your seat trying to guess what is happening, and that is truly the magic of her stories. If you knew what the twist was than the reading experience wouldn’t be as fun!
The Knife of Never Letting GO by Patrick Ness
I read The Knife of Never Letting Go many years ago and I feel like I need to reread it in order to continue on with the series. I really loved this book and I could not put it down, but there is a certain death that made me so angry that I am not sure I could put my poor little heart through that again! Honestly, I would rather not continue on with the series than have to read that part again…
Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis
I do not think that I would ever read any celebrity memoirs again! Once you learn about their life and their story, I do not see what there would be to gain from rereading them! I really enjoyed Scar Tissue and I learned a lot about Anthony Kiedis that I did not know before. He has lead an extremely interesting life.
