Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” My TBR on Goodreads is absolutely ridiculous so I am very happy about this week’s topic. It gave me a chance to go through my ‘want to read’ list and remove books that I am no longer interested in. These are the ten books that have been on my TBR for ages and that I still want to read!
It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
I have wanted to read this book for years and have heard great things about it. So many of my friends on Goodreads have rated it 5 stars so that gives me confidence that I will enjoy it as well. It is also a movie andI would love to read the book before I watch it.
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
This book came out over ten years ago and I still see people talking about it! This series sounds fantastic and it is one that I want to reach for soon. It is another book that the majority of the Goodreads friends have read and rated 5 star!
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
It is so shameful that I have yet to read A Monster Calls. It is a book that everyone loves and recommends to me. I know it is going to be beautiful and I have no excuses as to why I have not read it yet! I want to see the movie as well!
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
I have not read any of Ruta Sepetys’ books! I own Salt to the Sea and I am hoping to pick it up this month. WWII fiction is one of my favourite, if not my favourite, genres and it is ridiculous that I have not read Between Shades of Gray.
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
The size of Gone With the Wind intimidates me but I need to read it! Everything about this book appeals to me and I am really curious about Scarlett O’Hara. I have spent the last twenty minutes reading reviews and it sounds so so good!
The Darkest Minds by Alexander Bracken
This is one of those series that was all the rage a few years ago and I just never got around to picking it up. I do not see people talking about it as much these days but I am still curious about it. There have been so many dystopian and fantasy novels since The Darkest Minds came out, that I wonder if it has stood the test of time.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
I always thought that My Life Next Door sounded adorable and would be the perfect summer book. It is one of those books that I always forget about but really would like to read. I have a feeling it will be an easy read that brings a smile to my face.
A River Runs Through It and Other Stories
A River Runs Through It is one of my all time favourite movies, and when I heard it was a book I knew I just had to read it. Of course, it has been years and I haven’t managed to find a copy yet! I completely forgot about it, and I am now tempted to order it online. (Update: I have ordered it)
The Goldfinch by Donna Tart
The Goldfinch came out five years ago but it seems as though I see someone talking about it pretty much every week! I have heard great things about Donna Tartt’s writing and I have a feeling I will enjoy her The Goldfinch, as well as The Secret History.
Winger by Andrew Smith
Winger was all the rage on Booktube a few years ago and I remember really wanting to read it. I am still intrigued by it, but I am on the fence about whether or not I really want to pick it up now. I would love to know your opinion on this one!
I would love to know what books have been on your TBR the longest, and if you have read any of the books that I have mentioned. Are they worth my time?
I have a historical phase XD I love WWII books and historical fiction. I have read like 3 so far and I have liked them. Two of those have been gifts by my BF though… I think he is suggesting something there… hmmm haha
It’s Kind of a Funny Story… I have seen that book in the library so many times and also on sale, I am all about the sales… XD, and I have liked the synopsis and all…. we should read it together at some point! You will finish it faster XD

Poison Study is one of the books on the list I would love to read this year! Gone With the Wind I just don’t see ever actually happening!
There’s just so many things to read and catch up to. Too bad we have to be adults and actually earn money 😂 I wish I had all the time in the world.

I loved Gone With the Wind movie but i had no desire to read the book for some reason?? then I was watching Vampire Diaries and Damon had the book on his nightstand and now I have to read it. because if my favorite vampire reads it I MUST. <3 love this list!!!!

Love to here this list – I’m going to add a few to mine (and I definitely need to go through and remove some in the TBR pile – it’s stacking up!!) I have read Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys – and really, really liked it. One of my favorites – you will enjoy it! The only other one I read was Goldfinch, which was enjoyable, but less memorable to me than Between Shades of Gray.

My Goodreads TBR is pretty ridiculous too, lol. I ended up making an entirely new shelf to separate the books I own that I haven’t read yet (which is also ridiculous) and the books that I want to read that I don’t own. You should stop what you are doing RIGHT NOW and go read A Monster Calls, haha. I loved that book SO much. I’ve had My Life Next Door on my TBR list for awhile now too. I really liked Winger, but it did take a bit to get used to at the beginning.
I should separate my goodreads like that too but that is way too organized for me! I need to buy a copy of A Monster Calls. I know I will love it. That is interesting to hear about Winger. Thinking about getting it from the library and giving it a chance!

Between shades of gray is pretty good! It wasn’t like my all-time favorite, but I liked how it shed a light on part of WWII that we don’t often hear about, especially in fiction.
I’m intrigued by the fact that it isn’t your typical WWII novel. I am always looking to read something different!
Poison Study has been on my list for ages! I hear such positive things about it so I really have no clue why I don’t just commit and get it read! Lol
Also, The Boy Next Door was an easy read, but not the greatest so I’d save that one for a super duper rainy day 😉

Ha! I don’t know! I think it’s series commitment for me. I’m so behind on books I want to read and I know when I read Poison I’m going to love it and then feel compelled to instantly read the rest of the series lol. I wish us both good luck! =D

I just bought Shades of Grey last week! Salt To The Sea was a good read but I wished there had been a bit more character development. Historical fiction is my JAM! Also, the Goldfinch wasn’t my favorite but I think my mistake was listening to it audio..I think it was just too long!
That is good to know about the character development! I always look for that in a story so it’s good to know about that going in to it! The Goldfinch really is long. Probably why I haven’t read it!

I did not realize that A River Runs Through It was a book either. I haven’t watched that movie in forever but I do remember liking it.
It’s is such a great movie. Definitely worth watching again!
I have been wanting to watch it again because my boyfriend fly fishes and it makes me think of that movie.
That’s really cool. I have always wanted to try fly fishing specifically because of that movie!
My boyfriend tried teaching me and I failed miserably. I kept swinging the rod around like it was a magic wand. Hahaha
I remember thinking Poison Study sounded good. Same with Darkest Minds.

The Darkest Minds and Its Kind of a Funny Story melt my heart! I def think TDM holds up. The first book almost had me crying and the second one definitely did. Plus it is one of the only dystopias that includes magic, so it is kind of genre-bending-ish. Really hope you get around to it soon!

Poison Study and Between Shades of Grey have both been on my shelf for ages. I loved Winger! It’s funny and heart-breaking and so powerful — definitely worth reading! Loved A Monster Calls as well (another heart-breaker), and Gone With the Wind — well, I’d consider that a must! Don’t be put off by the size. It’s a fast, exciting read. Enjoy all of these!

I’m with you on The Darkest Minds, even though I have now read Passenger, I still have to get to Bracken’s first Trilogy! I think the movie is also coming out fairly soon? Another reason to read the book 🙂

I’ve actually read a few of the books on your list! A Monster Calls is probably the one I enjoyed the most, I really liked it; it was quite an emotional read. I also enjoyed Between Shades of Gray and My Life Next Door; it seriously has some of the best family dynamics I’ve ever read about!
I have The Darkest Mind series on my TBR as well. I really liked Passenger and I am really keen to get started on this series 😊

I really liked Passenger & Wayfarer – they are quite slow reads, but they are definitely worth it. I also really enjoyed the time travel aspect; it was really unique! I know loads of people really enjoyed The Darkest Mind series 🌸
