There are a lot of books that I have read that I did not enjoy, but that does not mean that I can’t believe that I read them. It has been many years since I have read a book where I thought “Why did I read this?”
Fifty Shades of Grey
That is right… I not only read Fifty Shades of Grey, but for some reason I felt the need to finish the whole trilogy! It was not good but I am not going to lie.. I devoured them… I even read the book Grey which is the story told from Christian’s perspective. You can rest assured that I will not be picking up the latest book!
All of Nicholas Sparks’ Books
His books are a guilty pleasure for me. They are so predictable, and very rarely have happy endings, but I continue to read them. Sometimes I just need to read a book where I do not have to think too hard, and these books are good for that. That being said, I can not believe I have read every single one!
The Day I Shot Cupid by Jennifer Love Hewitt
In my defence, I was going through a break up and was reading anything that I thought would help me to move on, but wow this one was bad! It was very trite and ridiculous. I definitely do not recommend it!
Deception Point by Dan Brown
I cannot believe that I read this because I did not enjoy The Da Vinci Code or Angels & Demons, and I do not know what compelled me to try another one of his books. I rated this book two stars, and I doubt I will ever pick up a Dan Brown books again- his writing is just not for me.
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
I knew that I would not like this book, but still I gave in to the hype! It was so boring, and I still can’t believe that I finished it! The movie was even worse!
Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
Everyone was talking about this book when it first came out so I caved and read it. It was one of those books that I couldn’t put down even though I knew there were so many problems with it. The relationship in this book is so abusive and problematic that it pains me to think that I ever read (and admittedly enjoyed) this nonsense!
Alphas by Lisi Harrison
This is a book that I bought when I first discovered Book Outlet. It is so not something I would normally read, and I can not believe that I wasted my time on it.
Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn’t Have) by Sarah Mlynoswki
This is a similar case as with Alphas. I bought it during one of my first Book Outlet orders. It was so cliché and ridiculous! It is not the type of book that I would ever read.
L.A Candy by Lauren Conrad
I know why I read this book. I loved Laguna Beach and The Hills but I should have known that this book would have been horrible. I just could not resist! I should have listened to my gut on this one.
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
I tried to separate the art from the artist for this one but I could not get passed it. I can’t believe I even decided to read this book, knowing what I know about the author.
So there we have it! What book can you not believe that you have read?

Yeah, on the other hand they say there’s no such a thing as bad publicity, so if you’re already famous I guess something that ridiculous can be quite helpful actually 😛

I read the first two Grey books but couldn’t make it through the third. Props to you for finishing the series! And a friend of mine has read every Nicholas Sparks novel, too, which is quite a feat because there are so many. There’s still a part of me that wants to read L.A. Candy; was the writing sub par or was it the subject?
There are so many Sparks novels and they are pretty much all the same. Yet I keep buying them! Everything about L.A Candy is not good!
Ugh, I was hoping it would be one more than the other. Oh well.
I can’t believe I read Fifty Shades of Grey and Eat Pray Love, too! I only read Fifty Shades because it was so hyped – learned my lesson about hyped books!
I feel like I am finally learning my lesson about hyped books as well. I am trying to only read books I think I will love!
Beautiful Disaster is one of my favorites. I’ve read it more than once. Awesome list.

Can’t say I’ve read Nick Sparks’ books but the way you describe the experience is the way I feel about a lot of television and films I watch. Not for the intrigue or substance, but just a feel good and often mindless way to pass time while eating or something.

I have read the 50 shades of Grey books too. At the time I love them but now not so much. I begin to see how horrible their relationship really was. I bought the first book of Christian’s POV but never read it and I don’t think I will either.
They are easy and quick to read. There isn’t a lot of substance to them so I don’t think you even stop to think about all of the problems! I did the same things! Christians POV is definitely not worth reading!
I agree I didn’t realize how bad it was till I sit back and thought about it. Yea I have heard Christian’s POV was worst so I never bothered to waste my time reading it.
I have a few of the same books that I can’t believe I read. I gave into the hype of FSOG and read the complete trilogy. Found them to be terrible but addictive. After reading them my friend bought Beautiful Disaster as a gift and also found it terrible but addictive. And I started reading L.A Candy bc I loved The Hills but ended up forgetting it on the bus. Haha And never felt compelled to get it again to find out the ending.
That is the perfect way to describe FSOG and Beautiful Disaster! Be thankful you lost LA Candy. Not worth your time!
I’m still cringing over a few of these also. I read the first 50 Shades book to see what all the hype was about. It was SO AWFUL, but I couldn’t stop reading it. It was like trying to look away from a train wreck, haha.
I enjoyed Eat, Pray, Love to an extent. Some of it was boring and a little too new age-y for me, but I connected with some of the overall themes in the book.
I am cringing at myself! That is exactly what it was like to read FSOG! I liked the parts of Eat Pray Love set in Italy but that rest was definitely too new agey for me. Not my thing!
The Italy parts were the best. I would kill to go to Italy for a few months and just eat whatever I wanted!

Totally agree with you on Dan Brown’s writing. Just not for me. Read Da Vinci Code, and Deception Point, but had to put Angels & Demons down after reading the word ‘acquiesce’ for the 18th time!

Fifty Shades made my list as well, looking back, I don’t know why I read them… I seem to remember the blurb to the first one being a bit misleading, and I had no idea it was about ‘all that stuff’!

i honestly almost picked up LA Candy so many times, because i LOVED the hills……pretty pleased i never got around to it. (although i was super into lauren conrad’s makeup book lol)
I love her makeup book as well! I am a huge fan of her website too! She is just not a fiction writer!

I can’t believe I ever read fifty shades of grey! And I read all three books! I don’t know why and don’t remember if I even liked them or if I just felt like I had to continue reading. I also can’t believe I got through the LA Candy books! I had never heard of Lauren Conrad so I just thought it was a normal book. Even when I was like 13 I thought the story was cliche and the writing was bad.
It seems like everyone has read Fifty Shades of Grey! There was so much hype. LA Candy was bad!
Same with me for the Fifty Shades books. Can’t believe I devoured them and then wanted to reread them…what was I thinking? I also can’t believe I read a ton of Nicholas Sparks books too, why did I have the reading taste of a middle-aged woman? 😛

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of Da Vinci code either- so I can’t imagine picking up another of his books 😉 I heard so many bad things about beautiful disaster, I’ll admit I steered clear- the romance just sounded so messed up.

I couldn’t finish reading any of Nicholas Sparks’ books. I had Dear John and The Notebook. I think romance just isn’t for me. 😬
Yeah I really have to be in the mood for it. I really did not enjoy the Notebook. Loved the movie though!

That is amazing that you’ve read every single book by Nicholas Sparks!! He’s written so many that I can barely keep track of them haha. I agree that though his books are predictable, I find myself gravitating towards them every once in a while. I love that they are usually relaxing reads, which I also turn to when I don’t want to think too much 🙂

I used to LOVE Nicholas Sparks books, oops! 😀 And I read the entire tetralogy of the Enders Game before I knew much about Orson Scott Card and loved it when I was younger… But I was on the same boat as you were and I just couldn’t get through the first chapter of Eat Pray Love. It just wasn’t my thing.
There is something addicting about Nick Sparks books. Mindless entertainment! I could just could not connect with the author of Eat Pray Love and her story. Not my thing either!
The only Nicholas Sparks book I read was A Bend in the Road. I liked it, but I think I have to be in the right place emotionally to read his books. I saw Eat, Pray, Love and thought it was stupid. I did read Ender’s Game in high school. I won’t read the Fifty Shades trilogy or see the films. I don’t agree with the sentiments it espouses.
His books are definitely really sad. He loves a heartbreaking ending! Eat Pray Love was stupid! I didn’t like the whole concept. I completely understand your feelings about Fifty Shades.
