TTT- Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Anything/Much About

TopTen Tuesday (1)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” I can not be the only person who forgets books so easily! There are some books that I know that I loved but I hardly remember anything about them. I remember the basic plot of most of them but not a lot of the details. Maybe it is time I reread a few of these!

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

930

I read Memoirs of a Geisha when it was all the rage and I remember really loving it. I even saw the movie when it came out, but still I have a very vague memory of what the story is about. I have heard some mixed opinions on this book recently, so I wonder what I would think about it now.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

37435

Just like Memoirs of a Geisha, I read The Secret Life of Bees when it was really popular and I remember watching the movie. I remember even less about this book than I remember about Memoirs of a Geisha. I do know that I really enjoyed it at the time!

Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt

77344

I read this book in grade 9, and it really affected me. Even thinking about it now it makes me very sad, but I only remember the basic plot points. I have been wanting to reread Angela Ashes for years but I do not think my heart is ready.

One Day by David Nicholls

6280118

One Day was popular a few years ago, and I really loved it. The only thing that I remember about it is the ending- which was devastating! I do not recall anything that happened during the rest of the novel.

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

11486

I know that this book was beautiful, and it made an impact on me when I read it high school. I hate to admit that I do not remember a lot about it. It is now a Broadway musical and it has inspired me to reread it sometime soon.

My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares

7135858

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants is one of my favourite series, and I remember that series so clearly. I was so excited when My Name is Memory came out and I really enjoyed it. Thinking about it now, I do not remember a single thing about it. This is ironic considering the title of this book.

The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom

13624688

I have read and loved every single Mitch Albom novel. The Time Keeper was one of my favourites, but I forget a lot of what happens. I had to laugh at my Goodreads review on this book that I wrote in 2013-

Mitch Albom never seems to disappoint. This is certainly another winner. This novel may not be for everyone, but it is throught provoking and will stay with me forever.*

*apparently not!

The Diviners by Libba Bray

7728889

I remember The Diviners being magical and beautiful and I really loved it. However, if you asked me to give you a synopsis, I think that I would struggle.

Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller

15826648

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and I was not sure what to expect. I read it in one sitting and loved it! I could give you the basics, but I have forgotten so much about it and it is driving me crazy!

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

11594257

I can remember little things about this book- especially about the characters because they are so amazing. The actual plot is just not coming to me. I absolutely loved this book but I never continued on with the series for reason unknown.

What book did you love but you can not remember much about? I would love to know!

  1. Haven’t read it, but the film version of The Colour Purple was amazing! I still have flashbacks to some pretty great scenes. Sorry to hear to book was meh. I wanted to read it for one of the topics on my reading challenge.

  2. Interesting topic this week! I haven’t read any of these but I can relate to really loving books I actually don’t remember much of, and it’s so weird xD I mean, I should recall most of it if I ended up enjoying it so much but not really.
    Great choices! 🙂

  3. The Secret Life of Bees is such a beautiful story! I liked it so much and I have wanted to read it again! I haven’t read Memoirs of a Geisha but I have had it close to buy it a few times ($$) and The Color Purple :3 I have heard so many things… hmmm but I think those are too big to reread?? maybe? XD

      1. That is what I thought :/
Oh my to what I remember it is really good! I don’t trust the movie xD but I have really precious memories about that one :3

  4. Great List! There’s so many books that I read and couldn’t remember that there was no way I could choose ten :D.
The Color Purple is on my list this year to read, so I’m glad to hear that you liked it.

  5. Forgetting books is never fun, especially when you know you loved them so much! It’s like, how can you forget your favorite books? It happens, sadly. 🙁 The Time Keeper should have made my list too! I loved that book so much and don’t remember much. Time for a reread! haha.

  6. Great list! The only reason I remember much about Memoirs of a Geisha is because I’ve seen the movie so many times that when I finally read the book I kept thinking about all of the differences lol. I really love Angela’s Ashes but like you, can’t really remember much about it.

      1. Really? I see it in bookstories so often and also in my library but Idk why I could never get myself to read it. I believe for Albom’s books, you need to have a good amount of time and concentration to really get into it.

  7. I really enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha, and I enjoyed it when I reread it recently even though I was a bit more critical. I also read My Name is Memory and really enjoyed it! I would definitely recommend it as a reread

  8. With Memoirs of a Geisha, the most accurate memory I have is from the film’s soundtrack, which I really, really loved. But, like you, I’m not sure how much I remember the actual book…

  9. SO TRUE on the secret life of bees and my name is memory!!! i actually forgot the latter so fully that i didn’t remember i’d ever read it until i just saw it in this post. wild 😮

  10. Wow, I was given One Day from my Twitter friend a year ago but haven’t read it. So the ending is devastating!! Now, Kristin, you’ve just whetted my appetite!!

  11. I have The Secret Life of Bees on my bookshelf. I haven’t gotten around to it, but I hope to one day. I think I watched the movie??

Some of mine on my list I remember a hint of setting or some basic premise (mountain? ghost? time travel? cop?) but I really had a whole lot of nothing, too. I know one of them I really liked, but now thinking back on it I guess it didn’t stand the test of time.

  12. Man, I haven’t read Memoirs of a Geisha in years but definitely remember enjoying it. Makes me tempted to pick it up again and read it as an adult rather than as an angry teenager to see if my view on it has changed with age.

  13. LOL at the amount of times I say something will stay with me for a while/forever. Let’s just admit that I always remember the feelings, but actual details of the story? That is a WHOLE other matter haha

  14. Oh, The Diviners! I loved it at the time, but by the time the sequel came out, I couldn’t remember enough of the plot details to keep going. I know The Secret Life of Bees is a big blank for me as well. Runaway girl (maybe?), honey, sisters… I don’t know. One Day has stuck in my memory better than some others, and so has Memoirs of a Geisha and Angela’s Ashes.

  15. Ooh, I love The Diviners! I don’t remember much about it either, but I should since I really want to continue on with the rest of the series! 😅 I vividly remember most of Under The Never Sky, but that’s only because I read it twice and I hated it a lot the second time around, so I remember all the stuff that made me want to throw the book. 😂

    1. I want to continue with the rest of the series as well. It feels like it has taken forever for the sequels to be released. That is interesting that you hated Under the Never Sky the second time around. I wonder what I would think about it now!

  16. I have Under the Never Sky and The Diviners on my TBR! Lately I’ve heard many people talking really good things about it, but it’s a shame you don’t remember them (even though those things tend to happen, haha!).
I’ve watched Memoirs of a Geisha and it was such a beautiful movie, but I think I won’t like the book that much so I haven’t picked it up🤔.
