I was searching the internet for a fun tag to do and came across this one. I love the questions and it was interesting trying to come up with answers for each of these cliches!
Actions Speak Louder than Words.
A book that wasn’t or couldn’t be better than the movie.
I adored The Notebook in high school and continue to love it to this day. I am forever grateful for that movie for reminding me of the wonder that is Ryan Gosling! I read the book and it was boring and nowhere near as good as the movie. They had different endings and I thought the movie ending had more impact.
The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side.
A rags to riches or riches to rags story.
This is the first book that came to mind! I have realized that I have not read a lot of rag to riches stories and even fewer riches to rag stories. I am kind of interested in the riches to rags cliche and would love any suggestions! As for Ready Player One, you guys know how I feel about this book- I love it!
The Apple does not fall Far from the Tree.
A parent child relationship that you love.
I love the relationship between Lara Jean and her father. The family relationships in this series really were the highlight for me!
You Can’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover.
A great book that needs a better cover.
This was actually hard! I am a person who judges books by the cover and most of the books that I read have gorgeous covers. I think cover designs have really improved recently. I decided to go with Runway by Alice Munro. I love her writing and own a lot of her books but I do not like the covers. Why aren’t there gorgeous editions of her books?
You Can’t Please Everyone.
A book you hate that everyone loves.
Hate is a strong word but I dislike this book! I know some people share my opinion, but it seems as though the majority of people loved it.
What Doesn’t Kill you Makes you Stronger.
What’s a book that made you a better person for having read it.
To Kill a Mockingbird is such an obvious answer, but it is also very true for me. I read this book at the age of thirteen, and I think that is the perfect age to first read it. I was highly impacted by it and truly think that it helped make me a more empathetic person.
Love is Blind.
A book with a disabled character or actual blind love.
I have yet to actually read Wonder but I won a giveaway hosted by Chrissi Reads, and this was one of the books that I chose. I am so excited to read it and I have only heard great things about the representation. Thank you again Chrissi!

A book that is bad but you just don’t want to admit it.
I absolutely loved the Watersong series when it first came out! It would kill me having to wait for the next book to be release. Objectively, I know that this series is not great but there is something about it that I adored and they still have a special place in my heart.
There is No Time Like the Present.
What is your favorite contemporary book?
There are a lot of contemporary books that I love but, whenever I am asked this question, The Man Called Ove is always the first book that comes to mind. It is charming and adorable and I just love it!

Six of Crows is so hyped but I am not sure if it is a book that I will enjoy! I do not want to read it and then not like it and have to come on here and tell everyone I disliked a book that they adored! I know that that is ridiculous!

I felt exactly the same about Six of Crows too (as it happened I did end up loving it too but no pressure!). I also completely agree with the Notebook and I’ve found the same thing with other Nicholas Sparks novels too like I much prefer the films of A Walk to Remember and The Last Song to the books! 🙂
That is good to hear about Six of Crows! A Walk to Remember is such a sad movie but I love it! I actually prefer his books that were never made in to movies!
Honestly, same! Ooh that’s really interesting, I’m not actually sure I have read a Nicholas Sparks book before watching the film first but maybe if I did I would enjoy them more than I have so far!
I’ve heard of the Watersong series, but I’ve never actually read them! They look interesting though so I’m going to put them onto my TBR. And I didn’t know The Notebook was a book??? Not sure how I didn’t know that but I’m DEFINITELY going to have to read it now.

I feel the same way about Six of Crows as well! And I still haven’t read it either. I started to a couple months ago and maybe got two pages in, panicked, and stopped reading it. Haha

I understand not liking a much hyped book- I was a little let down by The Wrath and The Dawn, but Six of Crows was one that lived up to the hype for me, then the sequel Crooked Kingdom, managed to top that too!
Ocean’s Eleven meets Game of Thrones – that line alone was enough to persuade me to read it!!

Me! Me! I read the Watersong series… are you surprised? 😛 It definitely wasn’t my favourite read, but I enjoyed it when I read it. It was light and breezy. 🙂

Fun tag! I 100% agree with you about the Notebook. I didn’t really like the movie that much, but it was still twenty bazillion times better than the snoozer of a book. Same with A Walk to Remember. TBH, I suspect Nicholas Sparks is just a terrible author, but since I’m never reading any of his books ever again I don’t really know for sure.
He’s is one of those writers who just follows a formula and doesn’t put much thought in to it. His books are very predictable!
That’s my limited experience too. Which is why I won’t be reading any more of them. But I guess some people like that, which is fine too.

Ugh Everything, Everything!! Everyone in the comments seems to love Six of Crows so that is encouraging. Ove is one of my favourite characters. You are going to love him!

Oh I’m sorry to hear about Six of Crows! I definitely plan on reading it despite knowing I might be a bit disappointed and not like it as much as everyone else, but I understand your reasons.
The Watersong series sounds pretty much like a guilty pleasure read? So it’s fine for you to love it even though you don’t really think it’s good – I have tons of those and I don’t care either 😛 We don’t have to read only great stuff the whole time, we need fun and entertaining books as well.
As for some riches to rags and vice-versa recs, I have The Matchstick Girl, For Darkness Shows the Stars, The Far Pavilions, North and South, and Persuasion. I’m not sure how good they are but I hope they’re something you’ll enjoy.

I completely agree about guilty pleasure reads. I think we need to read something like that every once in awhile. I read a lot of heavy and dark books so sometimes I need something more light hearted! Thank you so much for the recommendations! I am going to have to look them all up on Goodreads!

This is a fun tag! SIX OF CROWS IS SO GOOD PLEASE READ IT (you’ve probably heard that enough times but seriously, it’s so good. Just heads up, the first chapter can turn people away sometimes but it’s mostly just setting the scene and doesn’t pertain to the storyline very much). I agree on “Everything, Everything”, I liked the book but I think it’s too hyped up.
