Once a month I have decided to showcase some of my favourite covers! Covers never used to matter to me but over the years I have definitely start to judge a book by its cover… This month I have read four of these books and one of them is on my TBR! I will let you know why I love the cover and my thoughts on the story itself!
Swimming Lesson by Claire Fuller– I love that the cover is meant to look like waves and the woman’s hair is made out of the waves. The typography is beautiful as well.
I am very fond of this book and I appreciated that fact that it is very much character-driven. I enjoy stories about family and their dynamics, and Swimming Lessons did this so well!
The Wonder by Emma Donoghue– In my last Favourite Covers post I also included a book that had a tree on the cover. There is just something about trees and nature on covers that appeals to me. I also love when the typography is gold.
If you have read some of my posts in the past then you would know that The Wonder is one of my favourite books that I have read this year. It is so atmospheric and mysterious.
The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney– This picture really does not do this cover justice! It is much prettier in person! The book itself is my favourite colour, and once again I love the gold!
This is another book about family dynamics but unfortunately the story itself does not live up to its cover. I did not like any of the characters and the story was quite boring.
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield– As a book lover of course I am a huge fan of this cover! I love that the books are old, weathered and gorgeous. I also think that the bookmark is a nice touch!
Strangely there is a theme developing here- this is another book about family dynamics and drama! It is so well done! I am going to post one of my favourite quote from the book because I am sure many of us book lovers can relate and it is so beautifully written.
“All morning I struggled with the sensation of stray wisps of one world seeping through the cracks of another. Do you know the feeling when you start reading a new book before the membrane of the last one has had time to close behind you? You leave the previous book with ideas and themes — characters even — caught in the fibers of your clothes, and when you open the new book, they are still with you.”
In a Perfect World by Trish Doller- Everything about this is beautiful. I love the banana leaves, the birds, and the colour choices. There is something about the design that it very intriguing.
I have not read this book but it is definitely on my TBR! I have read Where the Stars Still Shine by the same author and really enjoyed it so I am eager to read more of her books!
What do you think of these covers? Have you read any of these books? I would love to hear your thoughts!
Great covers! I really love The Nest cover!
I know. It’s so pretty!
I love The Nest cover too, but the book itself doesn’t really appeal to me. The Thirteenth Tale is a favorite though!
I definitely don’t recommend The Nest! It makes me happy when I find other people who read The Thirteenth Tale!
Swimming Lessons and In a Perfect World are both gorgeous!
Aren’t they??
Swimming Lessons has such a gorgeous cover! Really takes my breath away.
It was definitely a cover buy for me but I loved it!!
My copy of The Wonder has a completely different cover. I like the one you posted so much better.
Do you have the one with the spoon? I like that one too but not as much!
oh they are beautiful! my favorite is “the thirteenth tale”. i mean, books right? 😂
So true! It’s a great book too!
Great covers. I picked The Nest for its cover at first. Then the story as it sounded like a similar writing style to my book.
But The Wonder is awesome. As is The Thirteenth Tale cover. 🙂
Good post.
Thank you James!
I love all these covers! Covers are really important to me, as bad as that sounds.😉
Oh me too! I love a beautiful cover!
The Nest for the cover has always called my attention, and I have seen it on the library :3 but I haven’t bought it, why? because on the book there is no synopsis haha and I always move on with my life after that haha
I think it’s a book to admire from afar!! Nothing special about the story itself!
oh… so I have made a good decisions by not buying it haha
Thank you for saving me those bucks haha
The Nest is so pretty😍😍
It really is!!
we have similar taste *drools*
Yay!! 😊
I have to agree The Nest has a very pretty cover, I even bought the book based on the cover and well, I kinda wished U didn’t. I did not like that book at all!
I know! It was such a letdown!!
I loved In a Perfect World! So graphic!
Oh that is good to hear!
All of them are so aesthetics! *-*
So true!!
I love the 3D effect on In a Perfect World. 🙂
I know. Isn’t that cool?
Ahhh these are such beautiful covers!! I love the cover for The Nest and Swimming Lessons, they’re so pretty. <3
They really are. Both are so pretty in person!!
Gorgeous covers!! I picked out Swimming Lessons to read because of the cover and then loved the story too <3 Loved The Nest's cover and read it, but I didn't love the story as much as the cover lol even though it wasn't terrible. It just didn't love up to the hype for me.
Haha glad we agree about both books! The Nest was so overhyped!
Lol!! Yes, it totally was!! I was expecting greatness with all the hype…so disapointed!
Great picks! Just landed on your blog through another post and followed <3 and The Thirteenth Tale is like the perrrrrfect book! I've spent years looking for books like that, I've got several, but they're really so few. A true masterpiece 🙂
Thank you so much for following!! 😊
The Thirteenth Tale truly is a special book!
All of these book covers are gorgeous!! I especially love The Wonder book cover, will definitely have to read!!
It is such an amazing book!

CANNOT WAIT!
OMG I thought I’d never find another person who had read “In a Perfect World.” Please let me know what you think of it when you start and likewise, I will try and give “Where the Stars Still Shine” a go.
I need to make In a Perfect World a priority. I will for sure let you know. I hope you enjoy Where the Stars Still Shine if you get to it! I really loved it!
