I have never been one of those people who rereads books they love over and over again. Starting this blog has got me thinking about all the books I love that I read years ago and I realized that I forget so much about them. I am also curious to see if I might enjoy books I disliked when I was younger. I decided to go through my goodreads and see which books I would love to revisit!
BOOKS I LOVED
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee– I always talk about how this is one of my favourite books but embarrassingly it has been over a decade since I have read it! I received a beautiful edition for my birthday and I am even more inspired to read about some of my favourite characters again. I still remember the major plot points of To Kill a Mockingbird but it is the smaller moments that are blurry and I would love to refresh my memory!
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline– I finished this book in one day! I absolutely devoured it! I saw the trailer for the movie the other day and it made me realize I have forgotten so much about this book! I really need to reread Ready Player One before the movie is released!
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson– I remember loving this book but I forget absolutely everything! I honestly don’t think I could tell you one thing about it. I really want to reread this book and then finished the series. I am so horrible at actually completing series but I will make this happen!
BOOKS I DISLIKED
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger– This is definitely one of those books that you either love or hate! When I read Catcher in the Rye in high school I definitely hated this book! I often say that Holden Caulfield is one of my most-hated characters but it feels wrong to say this when I haven’t read the book in years! I would like to reread it just to see if my feelings have changed or if Holden is as annoying as I remember him to be!
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley– This is another book I read in high school and I absolutely hated it! At this point I can’t even tell you why I disliked it so much so I think it is time I reread to see what my thoughts are now. I also did not like my English teacher and I wonder if that affected my opinion of this book. I have seen a few people talking about how much they love it and it makes me want to try again!
I think five books is a good place to start considering I very rarely reread books. I am hoping to review all of these when I finish them and let you know if and how my feelings on them have changed!
Yes! To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favourite books too, yet I haven’t read it for ages! I really need to refresh my memory. And I read The Catcher in the Rye when I was in college and liked it then (this was before I was a massive bookworm), so I’d love to reread it again soon to see if my opinions have changed! Marie x

There are so many books I’d like to reread too, but there always seems to be new/new to me books that tempt me instead!

I hated Frankenstein too. So much, I couldn’t finish the very short book lol.

This is a great idea. I do re read some books over and over again but there are others I won’t go back to because I’m scared they won’t be as good as I remember. I am very tempted though to ‘re read the books I was “forced” to read in school and hated as a result. Animal Farm for example.

I love re-reading my favorite books!! I’m actually in the middle of a re-read right now (and loving it!!!).
I haven’t read any of the books on your list, but most of them are on my TBR. I’ve always wanted to read Frankenstein, and I think I’ve just been intimidated by its age/length. Also, I really want to read To Kill A Mockingbird, but considering I somehow avoided doing that in high school, it makes me kind of feel like a rebel that I haven’t read it (does that make any sense?). Although this is the third place I’ve seen it on a must-read list this week alone, so maybe I should just read it already!

That’s the book that’s sat on my shelf the longest. I keep saying that I’ll get to it but I never do! That’s one of my goals for next year!

Haha Holden is probably still as annoying as you remember him. I love that book myself, but I don’t mind characters like that, and I enjoyed the writing. I’ve read it a few times, but it has been years for me as well.

I’ve read TKAM three times in my life, and hated it more with each reading. The most recent rereading was when Go Set a Watchman came out (which I actually enjoyed more than TKAM).
Frankenstein is one of those books I had to read for school (a Myths, Gods, & Monsters class my freshman year of undergrad) and fell in love with it. I’d started it several times before then, but I always stopped. I’ve got a very nice copy in a matching Classics set now.
I love rereading books. My roommate is of the camp that books shouldn’t be reread. She may go back and reread scenes she really enjoyed, but rarely does she ever reread books. I probably reread a book for every three new books I read, or at least I feel like it. I love rereading my favorites.
I wish I was more like you. I want to get in to the habit of rereading. Definitely something I will have to work on!
I love re-reading books. It’s the perfect cure for my book slumps most of the time. I keep meaning to read Ready Player One but I just can’t find the time to do so. I read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school and really enjoyed it. Maybe I should give it a re-read in the near future.

hehehe I love your reasoning for rereading Catcher in the rye- to be honest I enjoyed disliking him, so I don’t know if that’d improve for people who didn’t like him and so didn’t enjoy the book- I did empathise with him in the end though, so maybe going in with knowledge of him as a character would make me like him more. To Kill a Mockingbird are so worth a reread!! I loved Frankenstein- really hope you enjoy it the second time round!
I tend to like unlikable characters more these days so maybe there is a chance I will like it? We will see!

I’m reading Ready Player One right now! I am not that far into it. The beginning is a little boring but it seems like it’s FINALLY moving into the story. There was just so much description and I got so bored – I feel like it might be because I play video games so I understood what everything meant without the backstory >.< I don't know. Glad to know you liked it though!
