Top 5 Wednesday- No Romance!

I am really excited to start participating in this meme! The topics are always really fun!  It was started by Ginger Reads Lainey and its now ran by Samantha from Thoughts on Tomes! You can find the goodreads group for topics here! This weeks topic is Books Without Romance, which is perfect for me because my favourite books usually do not include romance!

My two favourites I read this year:

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman– Reads like a fairytale without the romance. It is hauntingly atmospheric.

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent- Dreary, and heartbreaking! A unique story- Hannah Kent is an excellent writer! No room for romance in this one and it is not needed!

Three of my favourite books of all time without romance:

Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay– I read this heartbreaking story many years ago and I still think about it often.

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr– Lives up to all the hype in my opinion. It is so emotional and has stayed with me.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel– I talk about this book quite a lot! The writing is excellent, and the story is very vivid!

I could list many more books without a romance that I adore! Romances are often my least favourite part of a story.  The books I have listed here are all a little bit dark and heartbreaking but amazingly beautiful! I can not recommend these books enough!

  1. I was also going to put Burial Rites on my list. I loved this book and it was so different from what I normally read. I am planning to read her other book too!
