Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians out there! I am so proud, and privileged to call Canada home. Not only are we responsible for such amazing things as poutine, insulin, and Ryan Gosling, we also have amazing authors! To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the favourite books written by Canadians!
The Wonder by Emma Donoghue- One of my favourite books of the year. Atmospheric, devastating, and so unique! Emma Donoghue is a masterful writer and is one of the few authors on my autobuy list.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel- I finally read this book last year and was completely blown away! Yann Martel’s writing is so vivid and captivating that I was hooked from the very start.
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen- Such an engrossing and gut-wrenching novel! There is something whimsical about Gruen’s writing, and although I read this book almost ten years ago, I still think about it very often. I think I will reread this soon so that I can experience the magic again!
Runaway by Alice Munro- I have read a few books by Alice Munro and they are all incredible. I had a hard time picking a favourite, but Runaway was the first one I read and it has stuck with me.
Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda- I really loved all the topics that this book takes on- including international adoption, motherhood, and cultural differences. Shilpi Somaya Gowda is an engaging author, and I plan to read her book The Golden Son this summer.
Sleeping Giants and Waking Gods (Themis Files) by Sylvain Neuvel– I have raved about this series all month long! Definitely my favourite SciFi series. If you love robots this one is for you. Neuvel is a genius with words!
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery– I just read this book for the first time and I loved it! Such an adorable and heartbreaking story! I can see why this is considered a classic.
I am beaming with pride and gratitude today! Happy 150th Canada!
Happy Canada day! I read and loved Life of Pi and Water for Elephants! I had no clue that Anne of Green Gables is Canadian haha
