June Wrap Up

Wrap UpThis is my first full month on this blog, and it has been amazing! I managed to read 10 books which is pretty good for me.  It was also my birthday this month, and I received a lot of awesome bookish gifts. I read a lot of amazing books this month.  A few of these will even go down as some of my favourite books of all time!

Into The Water by Paula Hawkins– Really enjoyed it! Better than I expected.  Full review can be found here.

The Girls by Emma Cline– This was an okay read for me.  More of a coming of age story than focused on a cult. Review here.

Waking Gods (Themis Files #2) by Sylvain Neuvel– I have raved about this series all month long!!! I also have reviews for Sleeping Giants and Waking Gods- here and here!

Red Rising (Red Rising #1) by Pierce Brown– I was told that I needed to read this and boy am I glad that I did! So EPIC!! Here is my review!

The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan– A quick read. An nice introduction to short stories! Marine Keegan’s writing had so much potential, and it is devasting that the world will never get to experience her full potential.

The Martian by Andy Weir– I was not expecting so much humour! I found myself laughing out loud! I will admit I skimmed a few parts, but I overall really enjoyed it!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid- One of my favourite books this year for sure! Evelyn Hugo is one of my new favourite characters! There is a review on my blog which you can find here!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas– THUG is just as good as everyone says it is! So moving, hilarious, and relevant.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach– I did not expect a book about a seagull to be so inspirational.  I am just going to quote part of the summary from goodreads because it truly sums up the story for me. “This is a story for people who follow their hearts and make their own rules…people who get special pleasure out of doing something well, even if only for themselves…people who know there’s more to this living than meets the eye.”

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery– I decided to finally read this one in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday! I am so glad that I did! Anne is so charming, and the story is just so sweet.

  1. I didn’t know The Martian was so humorous! I’ve seen the movie and I loved it but I heard they cut out a lot of the funny scenes so I might have to read the book! Hope July will be as great of a month for you as June was! 😊

  2. 10 books is so good!! 🙂 And there are so many great ones here. Red Rising is AMAZING, as well as THUG, so I’m glad you loved those! I never knew of the humorous parts in The Martian ahah, I really need to that one now. 😀 Happy reading!

  3. Congrats on completing your first full month of blogging! I started recently as well so it’s super cool to see someone who’s somewhat new and is doing amazingly well. I actually really have the read The Martian – I started the book and never finished it. The sad thing is that I was actually enjoying it too. But congrats on finishing 10 books! I hope you reach whatever goals you set for July! 🙂

  5. Happy Belated Birthday! I just finished reading The Girls and I have that same feelings toward as you do, it was just ok. Not quite what I was expecting. I am currently reading Into the Water, I am not very far into it and trying to keep everyone straight in my head because there are so many different perspectives! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo sounds so good and really want to pick it up soon.
