Top Ten Tuesday- Best Books of The Year So Far!

TopTen TuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme that was created over at The Broke and the Bookish! This weeks topic is the best books so far of 2017! I have read 37 books so far this year, and this list is my top ten in the order in which I read them.

1. The Wonder by Emma Donoghue– I adore historical fiction. This book is haunting and atmospheric. A very unique story, and so well done.  Emma Donoghue has become one of my favourite authors.

2. Burial Rites by Hannah Kent– Exactly the type of book that I love- atmospheric, dreary, heartbreaking. Read this book in January and I still think about it from time to time.

3. Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk– I have never seen the movie, so the ending completely surprised me! I just love when I am completely taken off guard by a book because that rarely happens anymore.  I was not expecting to love Fight Club as much as I did. The one word I would use to describe this book is BRILLIANT!

4. An Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman– My first Neil Gaiman novel, and I can say for sure that I will be reading more of his work! I loved the creepy, yet nostalgic feeling that I had while reading this book.

5. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir– This book totally lived up to the hype! The story managed to feel fresh, and the writing was really great.

6. Swimming Lessons by Clair Fuller– Honestly not a lot happens in this book, and it is very character driven, but I really loved it! The writing is stunning, and thought provoking.

7. The Themis Files Book 1 and 2 by Sylvain Neuvel– This series has ignited a love of SciFi in me! Neuvel is a very skilled writer. I have reviews for both books here and here!

8. Red Rising by Pierce Brown– My love of dystopian has returned thanks to Pierce Brown! I have a review posted here!

9. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid– This novel is phenomenal! Evelyn Hugo has become one of my favourite characters- she is flawed, arrogant, and so real!

10. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas– This book is just as good as everyone says it is. The story is so relevant and important that I think everyone should read this novel.

Have you read any of these books? Do you agree or disagree with my opinion? I would love to know!

  1. I LOVE The Ocean at the End of the Lane <3 It's short but there's so much packed into those pages. I love how eerie it is yet it's about kids…. like a dark, twisted fairy tale! Gaiman is amazing!

  2. The Hate U Give is definitely going to be on my list as well. Such a brilliant book! I loved Ocean at the End of the Lane, although I read it on release. Very happy my copy is signed and doodled in by Neil. 🙂

      1. Yes, he did it in everyone’s book, and there was a MASSIVE queue. I got an Ursula Monkton in Ocean, and a Wumpire in Fortunately The Milk. 😀 I was very impressed!

      1. I hope you love them as much as I did!

I really need to read them, I’ll put them on my TBR for definite! 🙂

  3. I cannot say that I have read any of the books on your list! which is hard for me to say… but I love finding new books on the TTT posts!

  4. I’ve been meaning to read another Neil Gaiman book and I’m always gravitating towards The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I really should just go out and buy it haha.

  5. Ooh I ADORE The Hate U Give and Red Rising!! 😍😍 And I’ve definitely always wanted to read Sleeping Giants so eeeep, super glad you enjoyed that one too!!

  6. I’ve only read An Ember in the Ashes but I’m happy that you enjoyed it, too! I actually have The Hate U Give but I haven’t cracked it open just yet. And I’ve heard so many positive things about Red Rising. It’s starting to sound like I might need to bump that one up on my TBR! 😀

      1. That’s wonderful to hear! I’m always up for something new in the dystopia genre 😀 Thanks for sharing!

  7. I read The Wonder last year- it was good! I need to read Fight Club (I’ve seen the movie, so I know the ending), and THUG. My library has both on audiobook! 🙂

  8. Nice list! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid has been on my TBR for a while but I have such a huge pile that I didn’t come round to even buying it yet. I’ve seen it on multiple TTT’s though, so I’m looking forward to reading it even more. 🙂

  9. Oh my gosh! Fight Club is such an amazing movie!!!!!!!! *dies* Though, I can’t say whether the book would have the same impact on me as the movie did, emotionally and mentally. :/

I completely agree on An Ember in the Ashes. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as everyone was saying, but it truly was! I really need to read the second one! 😀

  10. I loved The seven husbands…The plot keeps you engaged until the end and leaves you guessing. But the most important thing is that you learn so much from Evelyn’s life through out the book. She is predictable yet so mysterious. Evelyn starts her career from rock bottom, hits rock bottom at least twice later and then rises stronger than ever before. She knows how to be ruthless when she wants something done, she knows how to love fiercely and she has the courage to accept her shortcomings and rise above them. Is there anyone out there who doesn’t want to be as strong as Evelyn? I doubt it. Full review on my blog.
