This idea was started by Lia @ Lost in a Story. It is a great way to declutter your TBR shelf!
I have 289 books on my TBR- I had 262 last time I did this!! AHHH
This is how it works:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Boy Recession by Flynn Meaney– The reviews on this book are not great, and I don’t even remember why I put this on my TBR!
Verdict- Bye
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand– This book used to be all the rage, and the summary still appeals to me! The reviews on goodreads are really good. I have been wanting to read more books about angels!
Verdict- Keep
The Giver by Lois Lowry– I feel like everyone has read and loved The Giver! It sounds exactly like the kind of book I would love!
Verdict– Keep
It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini– This still appeals to me. It seems like mental illness is handled well, and that is something I am interested in reading!
Verdict- Keep
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelina– Reviewers who I trust on goodreads did not like this book. There are so many series I still need to read that this one is not a priority for me.
Verdict- Bye
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl– There are so many mixed reviews! I also watched the movie and did not like it!
Verdict- Bye
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare– I really need to see what all the Wil Herondale hype is about!
Verdict- Keep
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace– This is over 1000 pages… lets be real- I will never read this!
Verdict- Bye
Graceling by Kristin Cashore– I own this book and still really want to read it! I have been recommended this book many times as well! I also love when I have the same name as an author!
Verdict- Keep
Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler– I don’t even like Chelsea Handler that much so I am not sure why this on my TBR! Her sense of humour just isn’t for me!
Verdict- Bye
So there you have it! I am keeping 5 and getting rid of 5! I am pretty happy with that! Do you agree with my choices? I would love to know!
I read It’s Kind of a Funny Story a few years ago and I remember enjoyed this. (Checking Goodreads) Yes, I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars which means ‘I liked it.’ That said, I only vaguely remember what’s going on in the book… I probably should pick it up once again sometime this year – this book speaks to me, too 🙂
I really want to get to it really soon! I hope you enjoy it just as much the second time you read it! 😀
Cool idea! 🙂
Ah yes I also took Beautiful creatures off my tbr cos of all the mixed reviews- and I also watched the movie and thought it was alright, but it didn’t inspire me to read the book. Keeping the Giver is a good choice!!
People used to talk about Beautiful Creatures all the time but now I never hear about that series!
Happy to hear The Giver is worth reading. Want to get to it soon!!
Ah yes that’s so true!! Awesome! 😀
I’d like to try this…
It is fun and really helpful!!
The giver was a really good book , I hope you enjoy it.
I keep hearing about beautiful creatures and I just wanna read it now!
Thank you! I can’t wait to read it!
Interesting list! I’ve watched It’s Kind of a Funny Story without knowing it was based on a book, but I really liked it so I can only assume it’ll be an awesome read 🙂 The Giver was good, if I remember. But not as amazing as I thought it would be.
And I’m totally with you on TID! I really want to know what the hype is about that guy XD (and Tessa, etc.) But I don’t know if it can be read as a standalone and if not, I’m not reading TMI.
I didn’t even know it was a movie! That is good to know!
That’s how I feel about TDI. I tried TMI and didn’t love it so I don’t want to have to read all of those just to read about Wil!!
Yes, and it’s really cool! I hope you like it if you decide to watch it 😊 It stars Zach Galifianakis, and I love him!
Yeah me too. I just hope it’s not too confusing without having read the others.
I haven’t read TID either! Everyone always mentions Will Herondale as their favourite book boyfriend and I’m like WHO IS THAAAATTTTT 😂
I’m so curious! I don’t usually get in to the book boyfriend thing but at love of people love him so we will see!
I definitely recommend It’s Kind of A Funny Story, it’s really good! Great post!
Thank you! I want to read it some time soon!
This is a great idea. Will definitely be keeping this on my things to do. 🙂
It is so helpful! I love doing these!
